About Durban Central – All You Need To Know

The energetic city of Durban Central is a holiday destination that can easily compete with other top cities in the world. It features an eclectic fusion of cultures, architectural styles that blend old and new, traditional rickshaws, bunny chows and curry, Indian markets, beautiful sandy beaches that offer safe swimming in temperate waters, and sub-tropical weather that promises sunshine almost all year round.

With wide, clean streets leading easily into the city’s centre, dependable public transportation, a city metro police force, museums, endless retail opportunities, theatre, and sights and sounds to keep you occupied for days, Durban’s coastline has been painstakingly revitalized.

Durban Central is a destination for more than just tourists. Between the seaside and the city centre, across from the Exhibition Centre, is the International Convention Centre, a premier example of contemporary design that has elevated Durban on the international conference map and attracts business travellers from all over the world.

The Natural Science Museum, the primary library, and the Durban Art Gallery are all housed in the 1910 Edwardian neo-baroque City Hall, which was modelled after the city hall in Belfast. The ancient train station in Durban, now known as Tourist Junction, is just past this prominently photographed structure and is where visitors can arrange excursions of the entire city.

The largest mosque in the southern hemisphere is located on Grey Street, and there is also the Victoria Street Market, an updated version of the original Indian Market, uShaka Marine World, and the Point development, a waterfront collection of shopping and apartment buildings close to the harbour mouth.
