Durban Golden Mile – Everything You Need To Know

The Durban Golden Mile is one of most popular tourist attractions, and it is well worth visiting. It has a beautiful stretch of golden beaches that are kissed by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, as its name suggests. The hustle and bustle of some of Durban’s top housing, restaurants, entertainment centres, stores, and cultural attractions flanks this.

Some of Durban’s nicest beaches may be found along the Golden Mile. South Beach (for those learning to surf), North Beach (for swimming and surfing), Addington Beach (for swimming, surfing, and paddling), and the Bay of Plenty are just a few of them (this has the added advantage of being excellent for fishing). Picnics, fishing, and simply spending time with the people we care about are all possible at the Blue Lagoon. Shark nets and lifeguards keep the beaches safe.

The warm sands entice joggers, couples looking for a romantic stroll, swimmers, surfers, and sunbathers seeking the most bronzed of tans. To avoid being burned by the rays, remember to constantly using a good quality sunscreen.

However, The Mile, as it is commonly referred to, is about more than just world-class beaches. There is a paved promenade along the beaches that is perfect for strolling and cycling, as well as traditional Zulu art and craft vendors where you may get fantastic presents and keepsakes. At Bay of Plenty Beach, there’s a Skate Park where skateboarders, rollerbladers, and BMX bike riders show off their abilities and practise new stunts. The Time Warp Surf Museum is devoted to the history, culture, and community of surfing and is located at South Beach along the Golden Mile.

The Durban coastline’s Golden Mile is a bustling, varied area. Also’s adjacent to the city’s commercial, cultural, and retail attractions, and it has some of the country’s most beautiful and best swimming and surfing beaches.

Attractions At Durban Golden Mile

During the holiday seasons (June–July and December–January), South Africans from all over the country, but especially from the Gauteng region, rush to the Golden Mile to enjoy its attractions and those of the longer coastal area, which include:

1.Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World

The Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World is located on Durban’s Golden Mile’s northern end. Apart from the casino, the complex has numerous restaurants, a beach bar, theatres, and its own private beach, which has been recognised as one of South Africa’s top three beaches. The complex’s design is in keeping with the art deco style that is popular in Durban. Many recreational cyclists use the casino as a base for their training rides up the North Coast. In September, it hosts the Tour de Nandos cycling race, and in October, it hosts the Amashovashova National Classic.

2.Moses Mabhida Stadium

Moses Mabhida Stadium is a stadium in Durban named after Moses Mabhida, a former South African Communist Party General Secretary. It is a multi-purpose stadium that hosted the 2010 FIFA World Cup as one of the host stadiums. During the World Cup, the stadium has a capacity of 62,760 people, and subsequently, it has a capacity of 54,000. The stadium is located in the Kings Park Sporting Precinct, between the Kings Park Stadium and the Durban street track, which hosts the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport. An adjacent indoor arena, a football museum, a sports institute, and a transmodal transportation station are all part of the complex.

A 350-meter (1,148-foot) long free and 105-meter (344-foot) high span arch, evocative of the renowned Wembley Stadium arch, supports the stadium’s roof, with the top of the arch rising to 106 metres (348 feet) above the pitch. The arch, inspired by the South African flag, depicts the reunification of a once-divided nation.

3.Battery Beach

In comparison to the North and South Beaches, Battery Beach is a little less congested. It’s a great area for families to spend the day. It’s a calm beach, but to the north is Waterworld, a major amusement park, and Animal Farm. Visit Battery Beach if you want to spend a relaxed day in the sun.

4.Bay of Plenty

Surfing, fishing, and sunbathing are all popular activities at Bay of Plenty Beach. Anglers flock to this beach in large numbers. However, fishing is only permitted during certain hours, so follow the posted instructions. This beach is well-known for hosting beach volleyball events. Amazing sand sculptures can also be found here.

5.North Beach

North Beach is a cliff between Bay of Plenty and Dairy Beach, located north of the harbour. It is one of Durban’s most popular beaches, and it is maintained by the Durban Surf Lifesaving Club. The beach is surrounded by two big piers and may be reached by the Or Tambo Parade, which runs along the Durban Golden Mile. North Beach is an excellent vacation spot due to its excellent surf conditions. Surfing, bodyboarding, and skating, as well as swimming and sunbathing, are all available at North Beach.

6.Durban Golden Mile Funfair

One of the most popular attractions on the Golden Mile is the Golden Mile Funfair. You and your children will enjoy the amusement rides, side stalls, games, roller coasters, and other attractions. So, if you want to have a good time on the Golden Mile, you must go to the Funfair!

7.uShaka Marine World

uShaka Marine World is a Durban-based 16-hectare (40-acre) theme park that opened in April 2004. uShaka Sea World, uShaka Wet ‘n Wild, uShaka Beach, and uShaka Village Walk are the four areas. It is situated between the beach and the harbour on a narrow strip of land. It was the initial stage of the Durban Point’s reconstruction.

With 32 tanks containing 17,500 cubic metres of water, uShaka Sea World is the world’s fifth largest aquarium. The underground aquarium is built around five shipwrecks and is accessible via the above-ground “Phantom Ship,” which houses several restaurants, including the “Cargo Hold,” which features a wall-sized shark aquarium visible from most dining areas, and the “Upper Deck,” which offers views of the open sea exhibits that surround the “ship.” The dolphin stadium has a capacity of 1,200 people, while the seal stadium has a capacity of 450.
