In a surprising turn of events, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has decided to move some international airlines back to a section of the old terminal at Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos, just ten days after relocating them to the new aerodrome.
This decision, authorized by Mr. Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, is intended to allow certain airlines to operate from the D Wing terminal of the old terminal, alongside the new facility.
FAAN has stated that this move aims to enhance passenger facilitation at the airport. The agency has also revealed plans for the phased renovation of the old international terminal. The relocation of international airlines to the new terminal initially began on September 8, 2023, following the minister’s directive to FAAN to facilitate this shift.
The new international terminal was commissioned by former President Muhammadu Buhari on March 22, 2022. This development underscores the dynamic nature of airport operations and management in response to evolving needs and circumstances.
