Fresnaye, Atlantic Seaboard – Cape Town

by Kojo Pocu

Fresnaye is one of the city’s most upscale residential neighbourhoods and provides some of the best vacation accommodations in Cape Town. It is located on the slopes of Lion’s Head, halfway between Sea Point and Bantry Bay. Some of the most valuable real estate along the Atlantic Seaboard can be found at Fresnaye due to its ideal location on the mountain, protection from the infamous south-easterly, and ease of access to Cape Town. As the suburb’s name suggests, the streets here are named for locations in France, and the breathtaking views include expansive vistas of the Atlantic, Table Bay, and Robben Island.

The neighbourhood is close to the V&A Waterfront and provides quick access to the many museums, galleries, and alleyways of the city centre. Hanging out on one of Clifton’s four beaches, which are divided by granite boulders, or the long palm-lined stretch of sand that has made Camps Bay so popular among the jet set crowd, is a major draw to the area. The trendy Atlantic beaches of Camps Bay and Clifton are literally just up the road, within walking distance.

Due to its location on a mountainside, Fresnaye enjoys some of the most famous sunsets on this portion of the peninsula. Fresnaye, which is near Sea Point’s Main Road, has a diverse selection of stores, pubs, clubs, and restaurants that give it its own unique international flavour. Locals, walkers, joggers, and parents with strollers enjoy Sea Point’s promenade.
