Radio Stations In Koforidua

1.Bryt FM 99.1

This is the first of Joy Daddy Industries’ radio stations to go on the air. This is not a station you should listen to if you are not ready for heavy entertainment. It was created in the search for a channel to market Joy Industries’ products. There is a lot of fun on their airways with artists like Ekow Puncho and Mama Sita, Jah Solo, and others churning out wonderful music and entertainment. Bryt FM was the station in charge of putting on musical performances that crammed every square metre of Jackson’s Park. Bryt has established a reputation for massive events, with the likes of Dancehall King Shatta Wale performing at their shows.

The Dadi’s bar would have a live band that would be broadcast on their radios on occasion.

2.Taste FM 90.9

1.Avenue Wuha Chop Bar (Aben wo ha)

Avenue is a very old chop bar located at the Galloway Junction. If you’re in a part of town that won’t let you go into the city centre and are around Korle, Nursing Training Area, ICGC, Cultural Centre, Galloway, Sectech, and their surrounds, this is the chop bar to go to. Although the chop bar’s Visioneer recently died away, the establishment has been rebranded and is once again bustling. This is where you will be met by the aroma of boiling liver ground with boiled ginger, which will be used to spice up your fufu soup.

2.Chris Café

In the mid-90s, the good old Chris Café was one of the most popular places to eat in Koforidua, yet they have since lost ground to some newer restaurants owing to a variety of circumstances. One possibility is that the visionary is no longer alive and that everything has altered dramatically.

Why The Name Koforidua

According to oral tradition, Koforidua was named after an Akan man named Kofi Ofori, who constructed his cottage beneath a massive mahogany tree. Weary farmers coming from their farms after a long day’s work may rest under this tree. Farmers began to claim that they were going to rest under Kofi Ofori’s tree as time went on. The term for tree in the Akan language, Twi, is “dua.” As a result, “Koforidua” is formed by combining Kofi Ofori’s name and the name of a tree. 1.Daasebre Estates

This is one of Koforidua’s “little villages,” sharing a border with the Densu Ano inhabitants and a route connecting it to the Old Estates.

Transport From Koforidua To The Rest Of Ghana

There are various bus, minibus (Trotro), and taxi terminals in Koforidua where one can board a bus, minivan, or taxi to destinations outside of the city. There are numerous lorry stations to pick from on the way to Accra. Metro Mass Buses and minibuses from various stations such as PROTOA, GPRTU, and COOPERATIVE UNIONS are among them.

If you live in Koforidua, are planning to relocate to the Eastern Regional city, or are already in the city and looking for a place to relocate to, be aware that trotros do not ply all communities in the city, and you may want to choose carefully if you want to board trotros. This is what happens on each given day, although it is significantly different for special occasions. There are exceptions to this rule on certain days. The 24th of December is the most popular. On December 24, everyone who wishes to see the city of Koforidua wide awake all night should pay a visit. What happens here is unlike anything else in the world. All roads leading to the core business areas are closed, spinners, live bands, and music videos are performing, and various musical events are taking place. This is the one night of the year when the entire city is awake, thanks to the Y&K distributor of Uniliver products.

Top Places To See In Koforidua

1.BAR 205

Call it the return of 205, which is pronounced “two-ohh-five.” This late-night hangout will keep you awake till sunrise. Located along Adweson Street, this is a site where you will be quickly observed due to its newness, and many people come here merely to try out their services. This is not the ideal location to be if you don’t want to draw attention to yourself.

2.Cassa bar

You wouldn’t be wrong if you called it Koforidua’s secret gem for authentic nightlife. Cassa Bar, located across from the Bedtime Hotel, has been on many people’s minds for both good and bad reasons. Cassa Bar is that location where you can “hide” from the gaze of everyone in town and never be noticed. The premise’s modern wooden building appeals to the upper crust. It’s no surprise that it’s been the site of numerous “discussion shows” and “meet-ups.”

Cassa is one of those locations that never sleeps, as such a place where “guys” have chosen to hang out. If you’re in Koforidua and need a place with a modern vibe, Cassa is a good option.

Cassa’s nightlife is amazing; you’ll notice it right away because it meets you with small groups of people chit-chatting at the entrance as if the day had just begun.

3.Legion Hall

It’s been called Koforidua’s oldest nightlife spot because it stubbornly refuses to die. The forecourt of the Legion Hall, once the most entertaining spot in Koforidua, no longer has that clout as many modern places like the Appenteng Hall and other “halls” in the city have taken away their luster. However, the forecourt of the Legion Hall is still as buzzing and bubbling as ever, with the occasional live band, you can be sure of a very busy nightlife at the space overlooking the SNNIT building.

At night, here is where all the “Koforidua flowers come home to roost.” After funerals, all the elderly congregate here to cool off. There’s a lot more to say. Indeed, nightlife in Koforidua will never die out as long as Legion Hall exists.

4.Total 2

This is arguably the oldest nightlife venue in Koforidua, and it’s a place where you can easily lose track of time. With your ATM card in your pocket and located directly across from the Ghana Commercial Bank, you will never run out of money. Total 2 has a reputation for always being full of “Koforidua flowers.”

This is a venue with plenty of drinks, meats, and everything else needed for a night out. Total 2 is located in the heart of Koforidua, on the outskirts of the city. If you’re visiting the city for the first time and want to sample the nightlife, this location comes highly recommended for all first-timers. You are safe, there is convenient transit to your destination, and you will not get lost.

5.Democracy Village

Democracy has a high importance in terms of nightlife presence in Koforidua, with rumors of housing female red light district girls. This is a location where you can have various kinds of soups whenever you need them, thanks to their famed fufu. Democracy is a good spot to try out the nightlife because they have a live band on a regular basis.

6.Plus 2

Plus 2 is one of Koforidua’s most adorable hangout spots. It has developed a reputation as a hangout for the “rich and mighty” who prefer to avoid crowds. Plus 2 is the spot to go if you enjoy nightlife but don’t want to be in a busy area.

7.Dadi’s Bar

Dadi’s Bar, which arose from the foundation of Bryt FM, is one of the venues that is almost always bustling at night. The events in Dadi’s pub will keep you entertained all night. There is a live band performing for your entertainment, unlimited drinks, as much food as you want, and plenty of meat.

The location, which lies near the Kenkey Factory on the Kassadjan bypass, is ideal. If you need a somewhere to stay, the Koforidua Hotel is right on the other side of the road, overlooking the bar; you won’t have to look far.

The Joy Dadi ladies, who are mainly clothed in branded T-Shirts, are readily available to make your night a memorable one by providing anything “Joy” related.

8.Pentua-wala

The exact origin of this name is unknown, perhaps because a lot of old bottles are sold at this site. The Pentua-wala is a spot opposite the Metro Mass Transport station. It has been known to be the most dangerous street in the city for years. Well, if you want to find the place where those who believe they are young and bold gather at night, this is the spot.

9.Commercial Bank street

From the Gabson Pharmacy-Mobile 2 Junction to the All Nations University City Campus, this street runs. This is one of the busiest streets in the financial center, and it never sleeps. On this street, there are some shops that are only open at night, and there are some products that are only available at night. The warning is that while this street is highly alert, it is not very secure, since it has been linked to a number of occurrences.

10.Mr T

Mr T is a restaurant and bar located in the well-known Jackson’s Park. This is a place that never sleeps, with people on the forecourt viewing the park at all hours T, and the surrounding area is virtually always busy. The peacefulness that meets you as you approach Mr T is so inviting; if you’re searching for a spot in Koforidua that is both awake and calm all night, this is it. It isn’t loud, and it doesn’t have the feel of a rowdy nightclub.

11.Paradise Pub Koforidua

Even though Koforidua is only an hour and a half drive from Accra, you won’t need to travel to the capital to interact with any government agency because the city houses offices for the Passport Office, the Drivers and Vehicle License Authority (DVLA), and other government agencies. Others may say that these offices can be found in other cities, but what sets Koforidua apart is that there are no lines.

8.Beautiful Landscapes

The landscape of Koforidua is one of Ghana’s prettiest and most picturesque. People have traveled to India, Sri Lanka, and other countries to see these landscapes. The Akuapem Mountains tower over the town, and the ground isn’t too slanted to one side and has a generally level surface, making transportation easier. The city also has a lot of greenery and trees, which helps to improve the climate for residents. This is something that is lacking in cities like Accra, where it is possible to walk for hours without seeing a tree.

9.Good sanitation

Koforidua is one of, if not the cleanest, city in Ghana today. Going for a jog in the morning and seeing Zoomlion workers cleaning the streets and collecting all trash materials before the sun rises is commonplace. Unfortunately, this is not the situation in most Ghanaian cities. Walking around the streets of Accra, you’ll notice heaps of trash on the roadside, some of which have been left uncollected for days, if not weeks.

10.No flooding

Flooding has been one of Ghana’s most contentious and debated issues for decades, as most parts of the country, particularly our regional capitals, flood during the rainy season. Koforidua city, on the other hand, has been an outlier. The city rarely floods, regardless of how heavy the rain is, and when it does, it rarely affects life and property as it does in cities like Accra, Tamale, and Kumasi.

During the rainy season, Koforidua has become one of the few cities in Ghana where life goes on as usual without citizens making any modifications.

What Koforidua Known For

There is no way to enumerate all of the reasons. Apart from its proximity to Accra and Kumasi, the city’s crime rate is almost non-existent, despite the presence of police officers in a few locations. In Koforidua city, the normal GHS2 gathered by police officers in other cities is not present. The city also has some of the top elementary schools, which are frequented by politicians with second houses in the area.

The Year of Return, Ghana 2019 is an initiative of the government of Ghana to encourage African diasporans to come to Africa (specifically Ghana). The year 2019 was symbolic as it commemorated 400 years since the first enslaved Africans touched down in Jamestown, in the English colony of Virginia in America. After a crazy almost two years of this pandemic, it is anticipated that over 150,000 individuals will be traveling at the end of 2021 and will truly be beyond the return experience to remember. And this guide will get you ready for this season.

What To Know Before Planning A Trip To Ghana

Akan is the most popular language here in Ghana, while English is the second most popular language down here. Most locals here might not be fluent in English, but they may understand anything you ask them. For the capital, Accra or Kumasi you can surely find your way around with English.

It is also best to learn the basics Akan language where you can greet people and also respond to their greetings. With that locals will be happier to show you around. Google can be of help or you can make a few friends on social media from Ghana before you visit. It is a plus for you if you already have a family down here.

For the most part, the people here in Ghana are all incredibly friendly, hard-working, patient, and generous individuals.

Strangers will frequently be offered to help you with directions when they get to know you as a tourist, interpret bus announcements, or take you out for drinks and show you around.

Is Ghana Expensive? How Much Can It Cost?

I cannot estimate the cost of traveling to Ghana because every traveler has different needs. Your travel budget in Ghana may be more or lower than that of other tourists. However, I can estimate your daily spending for your trip to Ghana.

Depending on where you want to stay while traveling to Ghana, it may be more affordable than usual. As I mentioned previously, traveling in Accra or Kumasi can be somewhat pricey, but it won’t alter your vacation preferences (budget travelers).

If you travel on a budget you can survive on around USD 20 per day or even less, depending on what you will be doing during the day or where you will eat. But if you are doing expensive restaurants or fine dining settings with higher star hotels or accommodations, then you can be spending about USD 50 a day on food.

Ghana has a different currency which is Cedi (this is the sign of the cedi). When you are to convert to dollars, 10 cedi is USD 1. You should change or convert your money into Cedi, some people may not accept or even know what a dollar is. Every bank or forex can convert it for you but is best you ask someone for the best converting offer in town. So I recommend you convert your money to Cedi as the conversion rate is lower.

Ghana Entry Requirements

Kotoka International Airport and Kumasi International Airport are Ghana’s two main international airports. Most tourists choose to fly into Kotoka International Airport when traveling to Accra. A health declaration form must be submitted online by all visitors no later than three days before their trip to Ghana.

If you’re fully vaccinated:

All travelers aged 18 years and over are required to provide evidence of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at the point of embarkation and upon arrival in Ghana.
There is no pre-travel or on-arrival testing requirement if you are fully vaccinated. Non-resident unvaccinated travelers will not be granted entry into Ghana. Ground staff at your departure airport will not allow you to travel.

You will need to take the following steps in addition to completion of the online health declaration form, set out in more detail below:

Take a pre-travel PCR test; load that onto the Trusted Travel Scheme website and generate a Travel Code; pay for an on-arrival test, and be subject to vaccination on arrival. Travel smart Tip: Carrying paper copies of everything will make your journey through the airport more straightforward.
You will be required to present a negative PCR test that was taken not more than 48 hours before the start of your journey, both to the airline before embarkation, and upon arrival.
Complete additional health declaration forms online before arrival
Do an additional antigen test on arrival in Ghana and will be offered vaccination upon arrival.

Visa Requirement

To enter Ghana, you need a visa. The cost of a single entry visa for a holder of a UK passport is £60. For information and to submit an online application, go to the Ghana High Commission website. A single entrance visa for people with US passports costs $60. For further information, go visit the Ghana Embassy in Washington, DC’s website. Holders of an ECOWAS passport—including my fellow Nigerians—can visit Ghana without a visa for up to three months.

NB: Your passport should be valid for a minimum period of 6 months from the date of entry into Ghana.

Dual Nationality

Ghana accepts dual citizenship. Dual citizens of Ghana and the United Kingdom should register with the Interior Ministry in Ghana and obtain a Dual Nationality Card in order to avoid paying visa fees. A visa is not necessary if this card is produced at the point of entry into Ghana.

Yellow Fever Certificate Requirements

Transportation System In Ghana

Low-cost planes, rental vehicles, public minibusses (Trotro), taxis, internet taxis (Uber and Bolt), and buses are just a few of the available transportation options in Ghana. Ghana is normally a fairly easy and affordable place to travel.

Budget Airlines

For tourists, flying within Ghana is not expensive, but it might be for locals. Many long-distance buses are more pleasant than the majority of domestic flights. However, only the major cities—Accra, Kumasi, Cape Coast, Takoradi, Ho, Tamale, and Sunyani—can be reached by flight in Ghana. By making an advance reservation with a low-cost airline, you can secure a flight for as little as USD 25. Depending on the season, the price could increase a little.

Car Rentals in Ghana

Kayak.com searches all the big car rental companies and finds the best price. This is probably the easiest way to rent a car in Ghana. Pre-booking a car online will cost you about $50 a day, and many of Ghana’s road is a little bad so be extra careful when driving.

Online Taxis ( Uber, Bolt, and Yango)

online taxis don’t work everywhere, they are most active in the big cities of Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, and Cape Coast. It is also affordable and very easy to get around with online taxis. You just have to select a location and the driver will take you to your destination. Online taxis charge according to the distance, less amount the app can charge is USD 1.

Minibusses (Trotro)

Using a Trotro to travel around might be a good idea if your budget is restricted. You ride in a shared minibus or van that travels between locations with other passengers, advise the driver where you want to get out, and pay when you get there. They occasionally also pay the fare just before the vehicle begins to move. The other riders would be happy to assist you in reaching your goal. The cost varies depending on the distance; remember to ask the driver’s conductor (locals refer to them as “Mate”) for the cost or to obtain your change.

Buses In Ghana

When travelling long distances between cities, a comfortable option is to use Mexico’s fantastic VIP Transport System (trusted brand). Buses have AC, reclinable seats, and Akan language movies. They are faster & more comfortable than Trotro for long distances. Some of these Minibuses also travel a long distance, but it is best to use these big buses as a tourist for your safety. Three hours trip can cost only USD 5.

Traditional Taxis

Taxi drivers in Ghana generally don’t have meters, so ask the price before you get in and also ask the driver if he can take you to where you going. Some drivers don’t know everywhere. Local rides within a city or town should cost between $1 – $2. It will be a bit more expensive to hail cabs from bus stations or tourist areas.

Ghana welcomes visitors at any time and provides every kind of lodging imaginable. from the finest Airbnb homes, treehouses, five-star hotels, and resorts. The cost of lodging in Ghana may differ depending on whether you stay in Accra or Kumasi. Others are less expensive but their prices might also increase during the peak season and significant holidays, like Christmas. You don’t have to spend a fortune on lodging in Ghana, though.

Learn About The History Of The Transatlantic Slave Trade Cape Coast Castle & Elmina Castle

I would advise you to visit Cape Coast Castle and Elmina Castle while you are there because they both had key roles in the Transatlantic Slave Trade. If you have the time, drive the 20 minutes between Cape Coast Castle and Elmina Castle. Over 400 years ago, the first slave ship from Ghana’s coast sailed for the Americas. Each colonizing nation, including the Portuguese, British, Dutch, French, Germans, Danes, and Swedes, established its own fort or castle in Ghana.

You will be given a guided tour of Cape Coast Castle where you can see the dungeons where enslaved Africans were kept for up to three months before being transported over the Atlantic to the New World. Observe and experience the hardships the captives endured in this fortress, from the “door of no return” to the shadowy basement dungeons.

Visit Boti Falls
