From ancient architecture to tasty street food, Western Region has much to offer curious travelers. Here are some of the best activities and things to do in Western region during your visit.

Over time, the Western region has carved a path through the hearts of the people. It’s perhaps Ghana’s best camping spot, and it’s also home to some of the country’s most important historical sites.

With a known history extending back over 2000 years, the region offers a variety of activities and is well worth a visit.

The region is currently a combination of modern buildings and friendly locals, with historical buildings, ancient towns, magnificent beaches, and tourism communities.

Aside from the history and architecture the city is known for, there are many other fun things to do in Western region that most people miss…

If you’re planning to spend some time in Western Region, I wanted to recommend some of my favorite fun and unusual things to do, no matter what time of year you visit.

Things To Do In Western Region

Visit The Takoradi Mall

Takoradi Mall (the earliest and oldest mall in the Western Region) is perhaps the busiest and most popular mall in the region, located on the Takoradi Interchange near to the Kwasimintsim expressway.

The Mall houses both local and international brands, providing visitors with a unique shopping experience. The complex, which is anchored by Shoprite, offers a diverse range of fashion, children’s play areas, family entertainment, electronics, picture studios, restaurants, banking, and other utility services to its customers. The Center has established itself as a key location for retail marketing, entertainment, and business in the region.

Some locals refuse to work on weekends and spend the majority of their weekends there. You’ll have the opportunity to connect with some residents and learn more about Takoradi, the oil metropolis.

Sleep Inside Atlantic Hotel

Best Western Atlantic Hotel, the higher star hotel in Takoradi, is located in the centre of Takoradi. For a relatively little charge, you can easily spend a whole day admiring the beauty of the sea and swimming in their pool. You do not need to book a room to use the pool; you can pay and swim without doing so. They have a great restaurant, although the food is somewhat pricey; it’s a good idea to look over the menu before ordering.

Book a room for a day and two and experience luxury in the Western Region.

Weekends At Aqua Makarios

This is one of my favorite sites in Takoradi to visit. Aqua Makarios, a restaurant on the water made of solid wood. I usually work from home, but when I need a change of scenery, I go to this lovely location. On weekdays, avoid going because it will be boring and lonely. Weekends are the greatest time to visit Aqua Makarios, and canoeing costs a dollar. There are no other venues in Takoradi where you may go canoeing besides Aqua Makarios. Don’t worry, their cuisine is inexpensive.

Visit The Local Fishing Harbour

Takoradi’s local fishing harbor is one of the city’s most attractive sights. You’ll enjoy the view from the shore, which features many colored boats and canoes. The finest spot to get a sense of Sekondi-actual Takoradi’s culture and way of life is at the local fishing harbor.

Taxis are cheap on the internet, and you can catch a ride to the Sekondi fishing harbor to avoid getting lost. A canoe ride can be paid for or tipped to a local fisherman. I’ve never done it and have no idea if it would work, but you can try it.

Biking

Takoradi is one of the safest areas to bike in Ghana. Biker-friendly pavement routes always give you the right of way. There are bicycling organizations in Takoradi that you can join, or you may rent a bike for a low price and explore on your own. It’s advisable to avoid riding at night.

Camping at Busua Beach

As I mentioned earlier Western region is one of the best places in Ghana for camping. With several camping places at the region, Busua beach is arguably the best camping destination hosting thousands of tourist every year. There are other form of accommodation at the beach, but camping is why most tourist visit the beach. There are also several activities one can enjoy at the beach, so be ready for any adventure when planning a trip to the Busua Beach. Possibly the best hotel resort in the region, featuring African-inspired suite designs. My first stay at the resort was fantastic, and I’m already planning my second visit as I type this.
