Radio Stations In Koforidua
1.Bryt FM 99.1
This is the first of Joy Daddy Industries’ radio stations to go on the air. This is not a station you should listen to if you are not ready for heavy entertainment. It was created in the search for a channel to market Joy Industries’ products. There is a lot of fun on their airways with artists like Ekow Puncho and Mama Sita, Jah Solo, and others churning out wonderful music and entertainment. Bryt FM was the station in charge of putting on musical performances that crammed every square metre of Jackson’s Park. Bryt has established a reputation for massive events, with the likes of Dancehall King Shatta Wale performing at their shows.
The Dadi’s bar would have a live band that would be broadcast on their radios on occasion.
Bryt, despite its entertainment content, also gives Akan news to its listeners, following in the footsteps of Peace FM and Adom FM. If local news is something you appreciate, you will enjoy Bryt’s news.
2.Taste FM 90.9
Taste FM was acquired from Vision FM (an all-English radio station) and afterwards converted. This station, like Bryt, was created specifically to advertise the Angel group of firms’ products (mainly Adonko Bitters).
It’s a station with a low level of “stress.” The morning show and drive time will be presented by a single voice. Then there were more programming from Angel Fm, its Kumasi-based mother station.
This is the station to listen to when in Koforidua if you enjoy Kumasi Akan station formatting. You’ll almost certainly hear from Kumasi and have access to all of the “Juicy Oseikrom filla.”
3.Tyt Fm 88.9
Another Joy Industries creation, this station was created specifically to broadcast music. There is no conversation on their radio stations; it is purely music. On this frequency, any discussion is a feed from one of the sister stations. Specifically, Bryt FM. The station is paving it way through the peoples hearts gradually. Tyt is one of the best new Koforidua radio stations
4.EMARK FM 97.7
With so many presenters from Eastern FM, you can bet it started out as just another Eastern FM. However, this station won many hearts with their afternoon political show hosted by Francis Annor Dompreh, who also came from Eastern FM but no longer works for Emark.
The station, which is owned by Apostle Evans Tawiah, has developed a reputation for multiple preaching periods during which various pastors grace their airways with their words. Their afternoon political show isn’t as lively as it once was.
Emark has a general audience format that is “light” in the sense that their shows are interspersed with a lot of music. If you enjoy music, this is the station in Koforidua that you should tune in to. Emark FM is the station that has had a big outflow of presenters arrive and leave at the same time. As a result, a new generation of presenters has taken over the reins and ushers in a new era of presenting. These are, nevertheless, very young girls and gentlemen who are obligated to play current music. The frequency is 87.7.
5.Goodlife FM 105.5
A “Gospel Station” was founded by a Reverend Minister and is now owned by Dr Paa Kwesi Ndoum.
Goodlife FM is the station to listen to if you live in Koforidua and enjoy being “in the spirit.” The station has a reputation for providing high-quality health programmes as well as the award-winning midday Akan News. Only Gospel music, preaching messages, and a variety of health discourses from various natural health practitioners will be heard.
6.Sunrise FM 106.7
In the city, this is the city’s second station. Because it broadcasts on two frequencies, the government-owned station has the most coverage. 106.7 and 102.1 are the two frequencies.
The station broadcasts an Akan-language general audience programme with a smattering of English. It is typical of an Accra GBC in that it runs everything in parallel with the “mother station.” Sunrise Fm gets its news from GBC in Accra, so you can get professional news without the frills at 6:00 a.m., 12 p.m., and 6:00 p.m.
If you grew up listening to GBC Radio 2 in the 1980s, this is the station for you in Koforidua and the surrounding areas.
7.Eastern Fm (Formerly Radio Z) 105.1
With the creation of Joy Fm in Accra in 1995, and the development of private commercial radio, it was time for Koforidua to have her own. As a result, on the afternoon of August 22, 1997, Eastern Fm became Koforidua’s first radio station. It began broadcasting under the moniker “Radio Z.” The station was founded by some of the city’s former and retired Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) broadcasters. Kweku Temeng and Wofa Duku, both of blessed memory, are among the pioneers.
Abeiku Aggrey nicknamed Santana, Alexender Siaw, and Anaafi Agyeman, all of whom are no longer with the station, were among the young ones who honoured it with their vocals. The station, which was founded by Mr Owusu Acheampong alias MC Caterpillar, who formerly worked at Radio Zurich in Switzerland, continues to attract a sizable audience, particularly among the region’s rural residents.
If you’re seeking for a radio station that will provide you with nice old music that appeals to the elder generation, turn your dial to 105.1.
The station devotes a significant amount of time, particularly on Fridays, to playing “funeral tunes.” Programs that provide historical information about old events and music in Ghana have been a regular feature of the station since its inception, and you will not be disappointed.
In Akan, the station broadcasts in a General Audience style and spends the early mornings conversing with listeners on the “Eastern Agenda,” one of its longest-running programmes. On Eastern Fm, the midday hour is marked by more music and sales programmes.
Politics, Sports, and Relationships programmes are similar to those on an Akan radio station. It is the best among Koforidua radio stations
8.MY FM 94.5
After significant debate over the frequency, 94.5 was eventually acquired by the Obuoba Group. My Fm, which has a conventional general audience format, is steadily establishing itself in Koforidua as a discussion radio station with a large dosage of sports programming.
Because they’re the newest in town, you can only “give it a go” to see whether they have what you’re looking for in a radio station.
9.KTU Radio 87.7
Just like any campus radio, you will find KTU a platform where young talented students who aspire the profession of radio broadcast are “testing their paws”. This station tries to “mimic commercial radio”. But KTU has a few unique programs like their “French program”.
If you want to listen to young fresh and emerging young broadcasters, albeit the occasional lapses occasioned by experimentation. Recently, they have started picking feeds of some current affairs programs like “News File” from Joy Fm.
Ark fm is one of the best radio station you should listen once in Koforidua. They host some of the top Christian shows in the city. Tune in to their early morning gospel show at 107.1.
