About Abelemkpe, Accra – All You Need To Know

Abelenkpe is an urban area located in Ghana’s Greater Accra Region’s Accra Metropolitan region, a district. Abelemkpe is situated northwest of Alajo, and southeast of Abofu. Abelemkpe, which in local slang means “the last corn,” is one of Accra, Ghana’s fast growing suburbs. It is a large municipality that is encircled by the lush forests from which it first emerged. The are is one of the best places to stay in Accra.

This neighborhood has two main entrances: one connects Abelemkpe to the Olusegun Obasanjo expressway, one of Accra’s busiest motorways and the route taken by locals, drivers, and walkers traveling to the city’s central business sector. The second entry, which serves as a gateway to Western Accra, is less used but is geographically more significant because it leads to a main thoroughfare that mistakenly divided Abelemkpe into two distinct portions.

The wealthy and renowned reside in New Abelemkpe, which is located to the north. The mainstays of this area of the city are skyscrapers, hotels, and posh eateries. Property in this neighborhood is quickly purchased by high earners. This area of the city’s skyline is dotted with churches, prestigious schools, fine dining establishments, shopping malls, and entertainment venues.

Older built “compound houses” (single or two-room houses in big structures inhabited by several people; typically without a kitchen but typically having a small covered space functioning as a cooking area outside each house and the bathrooms are common) are home to medium- and low-income groups. But they are being gradually updated to match contemporary norms.

Abelemkpe Mosque

A few detached homes and low-rise apartment buildings from the early 1990s are also present. A modern mosque, churches of all denominations—Orthodox, Protestant, Catholic, Charismatic, Pentecostal, and Evangelical—hotels, schools, clinics (including an eye clinic), and a few businesses and industries can be found in Abelemkpe. Lincoln Community School, an excellent American international school, is located there.

At the Ghana Institute of Languages in the neighboring Adabraka district or at other private institutions in the capital, there is also a hostel for students from postsecondary institutions in francophone nations studying English. There are two sizable parks in the area that serve as leisure areas and football fields, one by the mosque and the other on the grounds of the Abelemkpe junior secondary school. Kotoka International Airport is around a 12-minute drive from Abelemkpe.
