About Hout Bay Beach – Cape Town Beaches

The charming Hout Bay Harbour and the cliffs of Chapman’s Peak in Cape Town are separated by the beach at Hout Bay Beach. A sandy beach with a width of 200 to 400 meters is located on the mountainside and stretches for over a kilometre along the Atlantic Ocean. There is a little natural river division that must be crossed with a hop, skip, and jump almost in the middle of the beach. The Disa River originates on Table Mountain and flows through the wetlands of Hout Bay to this beach estuary before descending its stony back.

Popular resident activities include walking, wading in the water, and crunching sand between your toes. You may even build a family sandcastle and moat. Children and dogs enjoy playing in the waves, while horses and riders can also take in the stunning surroundings thanks to easy access to local stables. Swimming is permitted, and participating in water sports is encouraged in calm bay waters. Kite surfers and sailors enjoy the occasional windy days.

Seaside lunches and evenings are well catered for, and sunsets are appropriately accompanied by a cocktail thanks to Mariner’s Wharf on the harbour side of the beach and other beachside restaurants and pubs.
