All You Need To Know About Maboneng Precinct

Welcome to the most populous city in South Africa’s modern and cultural centre. Main Street Life, the 12 Decades Hotel, Fox Street Studios, and other organizations call it home. In Johannesburg, the City of Gold, the Maboneng Precinct is a refuge for artistic expression and commercial activity. A visit to the Maboneng Precinct is a must if you’re in Johannesburg. A modernized urban way of life can be defined by the growth of an integrated, mixed-use community where people can play, live, and work.

Maboneng is a distinctive collection of constructions that contributes to the city’s vibrant redevelopment. These include studios, art galleries, boutique stores, restaurants, and coffee shops that are fostering business and creativity in an inner-city lifestyle.

The original building in the precinct, Arts on Main, blends artistic office space with some of the best artists’ studios, galleries, and stores. Old warehouses have been renovated by developers into a vibrant area where members of Jozi’s creative community gather to work, play, and exchange ideas. Don’t pass up Market on Main, a weekly market at Arts on Main that sells local crafts and food from the area.

Main Street Life on Fox Street, a housing and lifestyle development with sweeping views of Johannesburg, is also located in the precinct. Residents share this building with eateries, the Bioscope (the city’s sole independent cinema), and the POPArt Theatre on the first floor. Nearby Fox Street Studios has retail space for eateries, clothing and design boutiques, as well as the neighbourhood’s community centre.

Some of South Africa’s best artists and designers, such as Love Jozi, Black Coffee, and Dokter and Misses, conceptualized and designed the rooms of the neighbouring 12 Decades Hotel.

The Main Change, an office building in the precinct, is another new construction. Here, entrepreneurs and inventors can work together in a collaborative setting. This location also has a spa, meditation area, holistic treatment centre, health food café, and clothing and furnishing stores if you’re looking to find your centre.

Another illustration of how the precinct combines living and working spaces is Revolution House. Here, art and fashion shops as well as film and sound studios are housed in the same building as the apartments. The MOAD (Museum of African Design) is an urban museum venue created to display modern African art and design and is one of the most recent additions to the neighbourhood.

The Smack Republic is located in an area of east Johannesburg that has undergone urban renewal and is experiencing an increasing amount of a young, vibrant vibe as it develops and rises on the socioeconomic scale

SMACK! Republic is dedicated to giving its distinctive brews “craft royalty” treatment. Hand-selected grains and hops are then mashed and boiled in premium stainless steel brew pots to assure the best flavours and the ideal circumstances for a distinctive, even eccentric, approach to craft brews. Some of these beers include the Bree Street Belle, an approachable golden ale, the Maboneng Maverick, a wheat beer with naartjie and black pepper, the Hillbrow Honey, a pale ale with nuances of rooibos and bluegum honey, and the Braamfontein Brawler. Other beers include the Newtown Nemesis, a milk stout that has been infused with bourbon and vanilla, and the Bre (an Indian pale ale with distinctive citrus and pine nuances).

This brewery, however, does more than just create great beer. They regularly host food and beer pairing events that show what is possible when people who enjoy good food and a nice beverage are open to trying new flavour combinations that bring out the best in both the dish and the amber brew. The best musicians, photographers, and painters from all around Johannesburg congregate at SMACK! Republic once a month to share their originality and inventiveness with one another while savouring the flavours of other uniquely South African art forms.
