Ben Kamma is a neighborhood of Port Elizabeth, which is the biggest city in South Africa’s Eastern Cape Province. This region has a long history; in the early 1800s, it was referred to as the Zwartkops River Valley. It was mostly utilized for farming at the time, and the local Khoikhoi people lived there.

After a farmer called Benjamin Kamma who owned land in the valley, the region was dubbed Ben Kamma in the late 1800s. He was well recognized for his effective agricultural methods, and his name came to be connected to the region.

Ben Kamma was designated as a “whites only” neighborhood during the apartheid era, and people who were not white were compelled to move to other areas of the city. But after apartheid was abolished in 1994, the region was made accessible to individuals of all races, and it has since developed into a dynamic and varied neighborhood.
