Darling cape town

Only 75 kilometres from Cape Town along the West Coast route and 25 kilometres from the beach at Yzerfontein is the quaint little community of Darling, which is nestled amid vineyards and golden wheat fields.

Darling, Cape Town which is renowned for its magnificent wildflowers, has a lot more to offer tourists. In honour of his alter ego, Evita Bezuidenhout, well-known South African comic Pieter-Dirk Uys has called his theatre, Evita Se Perron, a cabaret venue and restaurant in Darling.

The Darling Trust, a nonprofit that creates community-based programs to solve the issues of the area’s underprivileged people, took control of the nearby arts and crafts market in 2006.

The ideal weekend getaway location is Darling. Enjoy a performance at Evita Se Perron, a day at the beach in adjacent Yzerfontein, and a tour of this charming town’s sights and sounds. There are many wonderful places to stay, and any Darling lodging facility will welcome you with warm South African warmth.

Darling is one of those places where you can still count on seeing a horseman cantering around the streets, and its appeal is enhanced by well-preserved Victorian mansions and old trees. Darling is a flourishing agricultural hub that specializes in the growing of sheep, dairy, wheat, grapes, peas, and potatoes. There are various businesses, including a clothes factory, a textile plant, and basket weavers.

Evita Se Perron

Darling, Cape Town

It is practically a sin not to visit Evita Se Perron, a landmark and the residence of Evita Bezuidenhout, better known as Tannie Evita, the archenemy of Pieter-Dirk Uys, if you are anywhere near Darling (and why wouldn’t you visit the pretty, quaint little town with its many attractions just an hour’s drive from Cape Town on the R27?).

The fact that the most well-known white woman in the nation and the top Babotie maker chose to live in the town of Darling is nothing short of brilliant. At the former Darling railway station, Evita Se Perron combines an 80-seat theatre with a restaurant-bar called Perron number 2, a Boerekos (traditional “farmers’ food”) kitchen, and Bambi’s Berlin bar, the only wine bar in the world to serve Evita Blanc, Evita Noir, and Evita Amber wines.

Visit the Ormonde Private Cellar

Darling, Cape Town

Wines from the exciting new wine region of Ormonde Vineyards have a distinctive fragrance and a lot of depth. They are distinctively different, and this distinction has been acknowledged and honoured with numerous honours.

At best, wines are arbitrary, jealously guarded by their creators who constantly feel a part of it. Ormonde is no different. They take great satisfaction in producing wines that are distinctive to their region, and they put all of their passion into each wine produced so that wine enthusiasts around the world can enjoy it.

Every day at 11:00 a.m. and 14:00 p.m., they provide chocolate and wine pairing presentations. Ormonde also has a modest menu with cheese and charcuterie plates, gourmet bagels, and home-baked toasties.

Wine Tasting at Darling Cellars

The cool and moderate West Coast environment supports a wide range of micro- and microclimates, which, in combination with the various soil types, produce distinctive grapes that we use to create even more distinctive wines. This is as close to what nature intended for grapes to be as one can go, with 99% of all vineyards being dry land and roughly the same number being bush vine (i.e. not trellised). All of this results in wines that are authentic to their terroir and authentic to the personality we have developed for our wines through time.

With some of the most cutting-edge winemaking technology available today, investment is made in the winery and cellar. Their innovations in modern winemaking include a cutting-edge bottling process, new presses, a barrel maturation cellar, and replanting vineyards with noble varietals. This is one of the best places to visit in Darling.

See The Darling Museum

Darling, Cape Town

The Darling Women’s Agricultural Association established the museum in 1978 as a butter museum, and today one area of the museum is home to a collection of artefacts that depict the early development of Darling’s butter manufacturing sector.

The museum relocated to its current location in the former Town Hall in 1989 and uses its collections of Victorian-period clothing, crockery, and furniture to portray life during that era. The Agricultural Hall depicts the development of agriculture. Make time to visit the museum if you are in the area.
