Durban International Convention Centre (Durban ICC)

Six years running, World Travel Awards have named ICC Durban Africa’s Leading Conference Center. In 2004, AIPC recognized ICC Durban among the top ten conference venues worldwide. In Africa, it is unmatched for its successful track record. The International Convention Centre Durban is a focal point of the Durban Central Business District and a practical area in a beautiful setting.

The International Convention Centre in Durban is minutes away from the city’s hotels and beaches and is conveniently placed about 30 minutes from the airport. At the entrance to the centre, three baobabs, Africa’s tree giants, provide a regal welcome amid a welcoming avenue of palm trees.

The International Convention Centre in Durban was created specifically for conventions and has three connected but independent convention halls. There are numerous alternative venue configurations possible with moveable walls. As an alternative, the halls can be joined together to create a single, spacious venue with room for 5000 attendees and 7000 m2 of column-free floor area.

The International Convention Centre can double its capacity to accommodate 10,000 conference delegates when combined with its sister site, the Durban Exhibition Centre. The centres can work together or separately to form a whole. To facilitate easy access for delegates, Walnut Road, a brick-paved concourse linking the two centres, is closed.

Durban ICC Exhibitions

Exhibitions continue to be one of the most efficient marketing vehicles as a crucial component of the marketing mix, whether they are trade shows or consumer-focused events. The Durban ICC is the largest flat-floor, column-free exhibition venue in Africa, and its sheer size and scope are amazing. The structure is over 300 meters long, making it big enough to park four Airbus A380s side by side!

Clients have access to an almost infinite number of venue combinations because of the Centre’s clever architecture and moveable barriers. Its 11,600m2 main convention hall may be opened up to create a single, enormous venue or divided into 22 distinct show halls of varying sizes.

The Durban Exhibition Centre, which has two huge halls with a total area of 9,270m2, is just next to the Durban International Convention Center. The two major halls can fit 400 (3m x 3m) exhibition booths, to give you an idea of size. The DEC also offers a number of smaller rooms and catering amenities, ranging in size from 24m2 to 540m2.

Many of their current Exhibition clients extend their events onto the property’s numerous large plazas in order to take advantage of the pleasant Durban weather. These plazas and gardens are perfect for outdoor exhibition space, where different marquees and pavilions may be set up as needed.

Contractors and suppliers may easily enter the complex through the massive loading bay doors because all of the exhibition halls are on the ground floor.

The Durban ICC has had the honour of hosting a number of prestigious local and international exhibitions. The Durban ICC is a member of both UFI (The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry) and EXSA (Exhibition and Event Association of Southern Africa). Indaba, Africa’s Leading Travel & Tourism Show, Decorex, Mama Magic, East Coast Radio House & Garden Show, Comrades Expo, and Good Food and Wine Show, to name a few, are some of the most well-known events held at the centre.
