Ghana Tourism Authority launches 2023 ‘Tourism Month’ with high hopes

With the ‘Tourist Month’ of 2023 officially launched, the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has its sights set on a healthy domestic tourist scene for the forthcoming month of September. This yearly celebration aims to highlight and promote the vibrant tourism resources of the country.

The purpose of this year’s Tourism Month is to highlight the value of domestic travel and how it may help the economy of the nation. Through its “Experience Ghana, Share Ghana campaign,” the GTA, in partnership with other stakeholders, is prepared to give both Ghanaians and visitors an outstanding experience.

The plan received the enthusiastic support of Mark Okraku Mantey, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, at the inauguration ceremony on August 30, 2023, which was hosted at Accra’s Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.

He voiced his opinion that Ghana’s tourist industry has the potential to significantly increase the country’s GDP. The importance of actively participating in domestic travel was emphasized by Mantey, who emphasized that “it is good to know your environment because knowledge about your environment gives you power.”

The educational and financial advantages of tourism were emphasized by Ekow Sampson, the Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Operations at the GTA. “Apart from the economic benefits, tourism teaches us about our cultural heritage and… enables us as a country to present our unique cultural, historical, and environmental heritage to the international community,” he said.

Sampson further disclosed that the GTA is making unrelenting efforts to establish Ghana as a top travel destination on a worldwide scale.

This year’s Tourism Month has a jam-packed schedule of events taking place across the nation. A few of the anticipated highlights include the Oguaa Fetu Afahye in Cape Coast, the Asogli Teza in Ho, the Kobine Festival in Lawra, the Kundum Festival in Axim, and the Odwira Festival in Akropong. The Paragliding Festival, the King of the Mountains Cycling Championship, and a Special Tour to go along with the Paragliding Festival are other events that take place in Kwahu.

The GTA’s Director of Marketing, Mrs. Roberta Dawson-Amoah, asked all Ghanaians to fully engage in “Tourism Month.” She urged people to share their stories and promote Ghana’s rich culture, tourist sites, and traditions. She emphasized, “We mean by saying Experience Ghana, Share Ghana; when you eat Ghana, let us know; when you put on Ghana, let’s get a feel of you; and when you travel around visiting the attraction spots, share the sights and sounds of Ghana with all of us.
