LATAM resumes flights from Sao Paulo to Johannesburg

LATAM Airlines has reinstated its flights to Africa with the reopening of the Sao Paulo – Johannesburg route. Thanks to cooperative agreements with partner airlines in Africa, travelers now have access to a network of 47 destinations, including Mozambique, Angola, Nigeria, Senegal, and the Ivory Coast, among others.

The airline’s goal is to serve roughly 75,000 passengers in the first year of operations on this route. These passengers will originate from various regions, taking advantage of LATAM’s direct flights connecting South American airports such as Santiago, Lima, Bogotá, Buenos Aires, and Montevideo to Sao Paulo.

The journey from Sao Paulo to Johannesburg has an approximate duration of 9 hours and 45 minutes, with three weekly flights operated on Boeing 787-9 aircraft accommodating 300 passengers (30 in Premium Business, 57 in Premium Economy, and 213 in Economy). Departures from Guarulhos Airport are scheduled for 17:25 local time on Saturday, Monday, and Thursday, while return flights from Johannesburg will occur on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday at 13:05 local time.

María Paz Villasante, the Commercial Strategy Manager at LATAM Airlines Group, expressed her satisfaction at reestablishing the connection between South America and Africa, following a suspension of approximately 2.5 years due to the pandemic. She emphasized LATAM’s prowess as an efficient company with a global network encompassing 144 destinations across 24 countries.
