Loevenstein, Northern Suburbs – Cape Town

About 20 kilometres from the heart of Cape Town’s city centre is the established suburb of Loevenstein, which is a part of the larger Bellville district and has views of the Boland hills. Due to its proximity to the Tygerberg Nature Reserve, Loevensteyn is a leafy suburb filled with the sounds of birds, and low-maintenance, water-efficient gardens are a stylish addition. Originally the location of Loevenstein Farm; after the owner divided his property into parcels, local development took off.

The neighbourhood, like many of the northern suburbs, makes use of its proximity to the N1, Cape Town’s main thoroughfare. You are only 15 kilometres from Bloubergstrand and the picture-postcard views of Table Mountain, 30 kilometres from Bloubergstrand, and 10 kilometres from the Grand West Casino.

As with many other northern suburbs, Loevenstein residents benefit from being close to the Durbanville wine route. The less well-known wine route near Cape Town (Constantia is more well-known), the wines here are distinguished by very strong and varied fruit flavours, especially the region’s signature grape, Sauvignon Blanc. This is due to the region’s cool climate, brought on by the cool winds coming off the Atlantic.

A major draw to the area is the Tygerberg shopping centre, which has a huge selection of stores and entertainment options. If you’re looking for a more cultural experience, the Sanlam Art Gallery in Bellville has one of the largest corporate collections of local art.
