Royal Johannesburg Golf Club – South Africa

One of the most illustrious golf clubs in South African history, The Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club, is located northwest of the busy city centre of Johannesburg. The club, one of South Africa’s oldest at approximately 130 years old, was given its royal prefix in 1931 during King George the Fifth’s visit to the country. Two years following this illustrious visit, the East Course—the second of the club’s two iconic courses—was established.

The East course has since hosted numerous significant domestic and international competitions, including no fewer than seven South African Opens. It’s no small feat that The East Course consistently ranks among South Africa’s top ten golf courses in publications like Golfers Digest and The Compleat Golfer.

Although not as well-regarded, the West Course is nevertheless regarded as a top South African course and is chosen by many of the club’s members for its simplicity of play. To minimize disappointment, it is a good idea to reserve your Johannesburg lodging and tee times in advance.

The facilities reflect the club, as one could anticipate from the rankings. The Royal Johannesburg Golf Club delivers everything a player has come to expect from the modern game while also subtly adding a touch of tradition and old-world elegance. Without a doubt, you should play this.
