Sherwood, Durban – All You Need To Know

Sherwood also referred to as the small “garden neighbourhood,” is located west of Durban, almost around the corner from Westville. Sherwood has long had a strong connection to the environment, thanks in large part to the numerous nurseries and beautiful gardens that decorate the neighbourhood. The history of Sherwood’s beginnings is fascinating. It was given the moniker “Sherwood Foresters” in honour of the British army’s 45th Regiment of Foot, which was stationed here in the middle of the 19th century. They were in charge of the courageous pick-and-shovel cutting through a hill that is still referred to as the “45th cutting” today.

Sherwood, which managed to avoid the expansion that affected the districts to the north of Durban, is just now starting to experience the effects of the search for land. While many of the properties in the neighbourhood are older, there is a very strong trend among buyers to renovate and upgrade them. Sherwood is in an ideal location to act as a feeder suburb in the centre of Durban.

Sherwood is approximately five minutes from the heart of Durban and its attractions, adjacent to the Pavilion shopping centre.
