Strand, Cape Helderberg – South Africa Places

Strand is a thriving town in and of itself, located at the base of the Hottentots Holland Mountains between Macassar and Gordons Bay and only 40 minutes by car from Cape Town. To give the Strand coastline a contemporary makeover, brand-new apartment buildings in the style of Dubai have joined the ranks of beachfront houses from the 1970s. The Strand, Strand’s beachfront, is 5 km of white sand and one of the safest swimming beaches in the nation. It is popular for water sports.

Warm and protected, Strand’s beach is situated along a promenade with a few cafes, restaurants, and coffee shops. Additionally, there is a sizable entertainment area with a water slide, heated Olympic-size pool, and tidal pool, which should keep most of the family entertained.

The development that has put Strand in the centre of the picturesque Helderberg Basin with easy access to wine routes, Somerset West’s Mall, and the coastal drive past Gordon’s Bay to Betty’s Bay providing the best viewing points during whale watching season is the only significant change from Strand’s beginnings as a fishing and vacation resort.

Fishing and diving tours are still available along the section of the coastline between the Lourens River mouth and Rooi Els. If you need to escape the beach and its attractions, Stellenbosch is 25 km distant, and Cape Town and its attractions are accessible through the N2.
