Yellowwood Park, Durban – South Africa

The majority of the streets in Yellowwood Park, a leafy garden suburb 14 kilometres from Durban, are named after birds, including Lark Lane, Kestrel Road, and Wren Way. As these names might suggest, this area is a birdwatcher’s paradise, especially since the Kenneth Stainbank Reserve is located nearby.

Yellowwood Park, which is southwest of Durban and borders Chatsworth, truly feels like a village. With its park-like surroundings and stunning Cape Dutch Community Hall, which can be rented for weddings and other special occasions, the area nearly exudes tranquillity.

The Yellowwood Park-based Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW), which is on the list of educational destinations for many junior schools, provides care for injured and orphaned wild animals and birds, the majority of whose injuries are the result of human error.

And the Kenneth Stainbank Nature Reserve has some great trails, picnic areas, and the chance to see local birds, zebra, and buck, some of them around the small dam just down from the car park. It is one of the most stunning areas of coastal riverine forest and bush clump grassland mosaic still remaining in the greater Durban area.
