About Beachwood Golf Course, Durban – South Africa

Beachwood Golf Course in Durban

In the early 1990s, Durban Country Club took over and renovated Durban Beachwood Country Club to championship standards. The only thing separating Beachwood, as it is called locally, from the Durban Country Club is the Umgeni River. It is located on a prime coastal estate right on the water’s edge.

Long and narrow fairways that are parallel to one another, covered in beautiful green grass, surrounded by forgiving rough, and with smoothly operating greens. A player with a handicap will find the course to be a great challenge because here, accuracy and club choice will be crucial.

The Virginia Airfield, a small aircraft airport that offers breathtaking views of the planes as they take off and land, shares Beachwood’s northern boundary. The golf club, like any beach club, is naturally exposed to strong winds due to its eastern beach boundary, although these have been minimized to the greatest extent feasible by the tall overhanging trees that form the borders of the separate holes.

Visitors will be happy to learn that the 18-hole championship links course is open to the public for play. To avoid disappointment, it is strongly advised that you reserve your hotel or other lodging in Durban as well as your tee times in advance.

Caddies, change rooms, club rentals, halfway house, clubhouse, function rooms, golf carts, usage of GPS systems, and pull carts are just a few of the amenities available.

What You Need To Know About Beachwood Golf Course

Beachwood is now operated independently as Beachwood Country Club by new owners and is no longer Durban Country Club’s second course. It is situated directly on the Indian Ocean, halfway between DCC and Umhlanga, though views of the ocean are obscured by the thick foliage that separates the course’s length from the beach.

Sadly, this beautiful design, which is also a haven for wildlife, might not last much longer. The good news is that it will remain open for the upcoming several years with development plans on hold while it is leased out to local businessmen. It was scheduled to close in October 2020 since Durban CC had sold the land to real estate developers.

With a minimum age limit of 25 for men and 23 for women, the clubhouse has been transformed into a tavern and live entertainment venue called Blues. A café and workout center are also present.

Beachwood is looking for additional members, and playing there during the week is a fantastic deal.

Being a golf course by the sea, the ground is constantly sloping over the fairways, with some holes being higher than others, and there is typically a chilly breeze.

Beachwood is located on a small patch of land and has some challenging tee shots and incredibly tight holes in some spots. The bunker architecture is exceptional, and the new contoured greens are creatively designed and can have some challenging pin positions.
