About Beta Beach – Cape Town Beaches

The main components of this little, isolated Cape Town beach, Beta Beach which is located near Oudekraal beach, are large boulders and fine beach sand. It has some of the most beautiful views of the Twelve Apostles and Lion’s Head and is located in the centre of Bakoven on Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard.

Despite being at the base of a number of prestigious homes that appear to open onto the beach, it is not the privately owned beach that everyone believes it to be. However, there are some unwritten rules that govern behaviour, including respecting others’ privacy and acting as though it is an exclusive beach.

The Cliftons and Camps Bay, Beta Beach neighbours, are much noisier than they are. However, be advised that there is essentially only enough room for a hand towel there, so arrive early because once the tide comes in, it may feel a bit cramped.

The beach is surrounded by big stones, so the wind is not a significant influence and swimming is bordering on sluggish. The majority of visitors come here to sunbathe and read the Sunday newspaper.

Follow Victoria Road through Camps Bay to get to Beta Beach. Turn right onto Beta Road, park (if there is space available; this is why you should arrive early), and then walk between the houses to the beach. Perfect for couples and childless individuals seeking uninterrupted relaxation.
