About Glenmore Beach, Durban – South Africa

While some people try to conflate Munster with Glenmore beach, there is a slight distinction between the two. Trafalgar Beach, Palm Beach, Munster, and Glenmore Beach are the four places in the lower end of the Hibiscus Coast, and they practically sit on top of one another. Each has its own unique beauty. It’s interesting because Munster’s swimming and surfing bay is Glenmore Beach, which is where the misconception arises and why the terms are frequently used interchangeably. The Itongasi River, which means “I don’t know,” and the Mkhandandlovu River, which means “head of the elephant,” divide the area into two parts: Glenmore Beach to the south and Munster to the north.

However, the beauty of the shore here is not perplexing; it features extensive lengths of undeveloped beaches, rich vegetation, wild seas that crash against boulders, and enormous granite formations. This is a popular location for events like fishing competitions and beauty pageants and is a haven for anglers and surfers.

The mouth of the Itongasi River serves as a popular boat launch, Glenmore Beach is shark-protected, and this is a favourite spot for surfers. The best time to go is from April to October when the Humpback and Southern Right Whales, as well as Bottle Nose and Common dolphins, frequently visit these waters. The schools of dolphins attracted by the annual Sardine Run, which beached in Glenmore Bay in 2000 and 2001, must be seen to be believed.
