Kokomlemle is a town in the Accra Metropolitan District, a district of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana, and is known for housing, among other institutions, like the Accra Technical Training Center (ATTC). Kokomlemle is a vibrant, distinctive town. It is a small area of Accra, Ghana, known as the Ayawaso Central Municipal District’s capital city. The town has widespread acclaim for housing illustrious businesses like Multimedia Group and City Light Showroom. It is one of the best places to stay in Accra.
The origin of the name “Kokomlemle” is unknown, however, the town’s chief recounts the tale his ancestors told him about how, many years ago, a song the kids used to sing about frogs—known to them as “kokodene” in their dialect—became perverted into the name Kokomlemle. There are thought to be 3,000 people living in this long-standing town who work in both the formal and informal sectors.
Although people from many tribes from all over the nation today live in Kokomlemle, its initial inhabitants were primarily from the Greater Accra Region. As a result, Ga is the primary language in the region. However, there are other languages that the locals speak as well as Twi. In an interview, Nii Kpowulunor III, the chief of Kokomlemle, stated that the neighbourhood was primarily residential and showed no signs of becoming a centre for technology.
It appears that trading, particularly in device accessories and electrical device repair, is the most active occupation in Kokomlemle. Tiptoe Lane, a bustling neighbourhood in Kokomlemle, is one of the largest hubs for technological accessories, in addition to the town housing some of the major corporations. Due to this, numerous large smartphone manufacturers, including Samsung, Tecno, Itel, and Huawei, are present.
