About Kumasi City Mall – Ghana

The Kumasi City Mall was opened to great fanfare in May 2017 with an estimated 61 000 shoppers on opening day. It is the first shopping mall in Kumasi, Ghana’s second most populous city. Kumasi Mall as its popularly called by the people is not just a retail location in Kumasi, Ghana. It’s a self-contained experience that has everything you need. The mall includes supermarkets, boutiques, restaurants, cinemas and much more!

Considering that Accra, the nation’s capital, already has a number of malls, Kumasi City Mall has been in the works for a considerable amount of time. The $95 million structure, often known as Kumasi Mall or “K.C.M,” is the biggest shopping centre in Ghana and all of West Africa. Along with apparel and jewellery businesses, it has a variety of Western-style and regional restaurants. Numerous national and international stores and brands may be found at the mall. There are a few grocery stores, although they primarily carry imported goods.

Groceries and consumables, budget and designer clothing, technology and telecommunications, lifestyle, beauty products, and wellness products are only a few of the items available in the main mall. Other categories include those for banking and finance, dining establishments, cinemas, pharmacies, entertainment, presents and fine jewellery, as well as facilities for children’s games and relaxation. The mall has well over 1,000 on-grade parking spaces available, including what is now regarded as the largest underground (basement) parking in the nation. Additionally, you are not required to pay—at least not at the time we looked.

Yes, there were arguments that street markets and malls couldn’t coexist in a developing nation like Ghana and that doing so would ruin the thriving local market system. Does that still apply today? The Kumasi City Mall is more than a simple retail centre. This is the first mall in the area to offer a singular experience by fusing retail with leisure and culture.

Among the many malls in Ghana, Kumasi City Mall stands out and has the fortunate distinction of being the only one outside of Accra. It is still West Africa’s and Ghana’s biggest shopping centre.

On Kumasi-Lake Bosomtwe road near Asokwa, there is a retail centre called the Kumasi City Mall. Since this mall is located in the former Asokwa industrial district, unlike the majority of malls in Ghana, there is no traffic to deal with. The mall, which is in the centre of Kumasi, is an excellent spot to shop and see the city. Numerous Kumasi landmarks, such as the Baba Yara Stadium, the GIMPA Kumasi campus, and the main road leading to Lake Bosomtwe are close by.

It’s okay if you are unfamiliar with this shopping experience because this store is not at all like the shop you may be used to. Instead, it is more like a street with shops on both sides. Every new encounter requires time. Last but not least, Kumasians can take pride in having their own retail centre that can compete with any market anywhere in the world.

Its primary goal when it started in 2017 was to meet the need of consumers looking for more appealing shopping options outside of the typical Adum and Kejetia street shopping centres.

There are some existing amenities like

  • Restaurants (café, fast food, snacks, and juice)
  • Banking and financial services (ATM)
  • Underground parking garage
  • Health and beauty salon
  • Convenience stores
  • Photography studio
  • A movie theatre
  • A food court
  • Jewel store

Like the majority of malls, Kumasi City Mall began with the standard types of retail businesses – Shoprite and Game, which sold a wide variety of groceries, commodities, household items, beds, etc. – as well as standard consumer goods.

It’s wonderful to see a number of local stores and even traditionally made goods that have endured since the mall’s start. And if you’re wondering how to unwind after a long day at work or a weekend at the movies, you should know that Kumasi City Mall’s Watch and Dine Cinema offers a first-rate cinematic experience.
