Shelley Point is situated between Saldanha and Port Owen on the Western Cape’s West Coast, some 150 kilometres north of Cape Town.
This coastline, which was previously undiscovered, is a stunning area of the world with kilometres of white sand beaches, an abundance of crayfish, abalone, mussels, dolphins, cormorants, and the uncommon oystercatcher. The only settlements are a few fishing towns. The tiny peninsula that makes up Shelley Point almost gives the impression that it is an island surrounded by water. It is located in the serene waters of Shelley Bay, which offer excellent sailing conditions, shallow, kid-safe water, fishing opportunities, and world-class surfing at locations referred to as “heaven” and “hell.” Shelley Point contains a museum honouring Vasco Da Gama’s discoveries since it is thought to be the location of his first footfall on the South African coastline.
Additionally, it is home to the Shelley Point golf estate, which features a 9-hole golf course and other recreational amenities like a spa in its Wellness Center. However, if you don’t enjoy playing golf, the pure enjoyment of unspoiled shorelines, beautiful walks, sand dunes, gathering mussels, and just unwinding on a stunning coastline should win out.
Even better, Shelley Point has very few stores and facilities. There is the occasional ATM and store that sells essentials like firewood and airtime, but if you want a supermarket, you’ll have to go to Vredenburg. If you arrive on a Friday afternoon, fishermen sell fresh snoek from their bakkies on Saldanha Road, across from the OK Bazaars, so your trip won’t be in vain.

Shelley Bay Beach

Between Shelley Point and St Helena Bay lies a little bay known as Stompneusbaai, which was called after the species of fish that thrives in these waters.
The crayfish industry started in this region around 1915, and there are many fish processing plants nearby. In addition to being a terrific place for fishing, this area is also great for bird watching, surfing, kayaking, hiking, and sailing. There is also a ton of wildlife to view there.
The views from Stompneusbaai are spectacular, and you can watch the sunrise and sunset over these beautiful seas from the harbour. The beaches are enjoyable, and both residents and tourists love shell collecting here.
