About Strandfontein, Cape West Coast – South Africa

A little seaside community called Strandfontein can be found at the Olifants River’s mouth. Strandfontein, which means “beach fountain,” has transformed from a sleepy rural beach hamlet to a bustling tourist destination, especially during the South African summer and the wildflower season (late July to September), when the town is a popular weekend getaway spot for residents of Cape Town.

Due to the exceptional prospects for viewing Southern Right whales as they approach the protective bay during the calving season, Strandfontein has grown to be a well-liked vacation spot. At this time, there is a very good chance of seeing the Southern Rights playing in the bay with their young children nearby.

Due to the profusion of crayfish and mussels present in these waters, anglers are attracted to Strandfontein’s miles-long stretch of white sand beach and beautiful blue sea. (Note that a license is necessary!)

At Strandfontein, there are many other watersports activities available in addition to superb fishing. There is a slipway for rubber boats, a safe tidal pool, and a playground that will amuse kids for hours. In addition, there are quad biking, 4×4 trails, hiking, microlight, and gyrocopter tours available.

The Khoisan were the first inhabitants of this region, and they drank water from a fountain on the beach. This is where the term Strandfontein, which means “beach fountain” in English, originated.
