He is a very good friend and has shared many of his travel stories with me.

Michael is one of the best travel bloggers I know in Ghana and recently shared his Namibia and South African experience with me. I found it thrilling and I want to share it with you.

As part of my travels, I discovered a country with so much elaborate history, rich culture, unquestionable hospitality, and a serene environment. The good news is that; it made it to “Travel and Leisure’s” Top 50 list for 2019. The beautiful thing about this country is that, with the world’s most popular places highly populated with tourists, Namibia is one of the least populated in the world.

Planning and getting to my destination

My trips are mostly planned a month ahead. I do the necessary enquires to acquire a well-planned trip. Flying to multiple destinations is quite cheap. So I flew to Namibia and finally settled in South Africa. The plan was to fly with Air Namibia from Ghana to Namibia but Air Namibia currently do not fly to and from Ghana. My next pick was Ethiopian airlines. I had to fly 5hrs 40mins from Accra, Ghana to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and another 5hr 45mins to Namibia. I flew with Air Namibia to Johannesburg in a 2hour period.

My Windhoek, Namibia Experience

I was extremely elated when I touched base in Windhoek, NA – Hosea Kutako International Airport. I had a smooth immigration engagement and a cab ready to take me to my place of stay – Arebbusch Travel Lodge. I found Namibians to be very friendly and there was a noticeable lack of racial tension. I had three days and two nights to explore the beautiful city of Namibia. I highly recommend tours to those who are not confident with traveling through the continent independently. Namibia, in particular, is a bit daunting if you don’t speak fluent Oshiwambo. I visited the famous Christuskirche church, the independence Memorial MuseumThe Windhoek railway StationKapana (Grilled beef) market. My tour was made possible by Roof of Africa. I had dinner at Joey’s beerhouse and when it was time to dance, Chopsi’s bar was the best pick. I was cautioned a few times to hold onto my belonging whenever I stepped out. The reason is simply that there are cutpurse people around. This is certainly not your ordinary vacation. But then Namibia is not your ordinary travel destination.

 My Johannesburg, South Africa Experience

I call South Africa my second home. Air Namibia gave me the best experience of flying from Namibia to Johannesburg. As always you get the warmest welcome from the immigration officials. This time I used Uber to my place of stay- The Vantage Rosebank. Aside from the recent news about xenophobic attacks, the people of South Africa are very affable and accommodative. Johannesburg is quite easy to navigate. I had five days and four nights to explore the beautiful city of Johannesburg. I met some South African friends that made my trip even epic. During my stay, I visited the Gold reef city casino hotel, Braamfontein art community, Soweto, the apartheid Museum, the famous Mandela Square and the Mandela’s House in Soweto. It was so refreshing to be briefed on so much history and culture of South Africa. I ate at oceans basket (best seafood place), Gemelli Italian Restaurant and when it was time to wine down Liquid blue was the best pick. Before my departure, I visited the “Neighbourgoods” Market Johannesburg to enjoy South African house music, affordable food and drinks, souvenirs and met people. It was indeed a fun-filled trip.
