Do I Need WAEC To Win Diversity Visa Lottery?

Since the Diversity Visa programme, often known as the Green Card lottery, was established in 1990, hundreds of thousands of people have used it to relocate, change employment, and improve their lives.

Despite the fact that the regulations for applying for the lottery have been clearly laid out, many people are nevertheless perplexed by the requirements.

What is the Green Card Lottery?

Every year, the Green Card Lottery allows 55,000 people from around the world to immigrate to the United States without having outstanding qualifications, family in the United States, or a job in the United States.

Anyone who meets the US authorities’ comparatively low entry conditions has a chance to win the lottery by following a few easy steps. The winners are chosen by a lottery held by the US government every year between May and June.

Because the winners are chosen at random from among the 10–12 million candidates who apply each year from all over the world, the programme is known as the “Green Card Lottery” or “dvlottery.”

The United States is proud of its welcoming attitude toward immigrants. Certain countries, on the other hand, send far more people to the United States than others. Immigrants from Mexico, China, and the Philippines, for example, far outnumber those from the majority of other countries combined. In order to maintain demographic diversity, the United States regulates immigration from various regions of the world.

As a result, the DV Lottery has granted 55,000 so-called Green Cards to the United States at random every year since 1994.

Do I Need WAEC Results To Win Green Card Lottery?

To win the lotto, you don’t need a West African Examinations Council (WAEC) certificate, but you do need a pass in English Language and Mathematics in your WASSCE/SSSCE or equivalent, depending on the year you graduated from secondary school. Even if you win, you won’t be able to receive the visa without the passes.

It is important to remember that there is a group of people who may not have completed their exams but meet the employment requirements. Those who meet these standards may be eligible for visas.

This is because one’s employability may be determined not just by one’s educational degree, but also by the types of abilities obtained in specific disciplines that may be relevant to the labour market and beneficial to the US economy. The O*Net Online Database of the Department of Labor lists qualifying DV occupations.

In terms of work qualifications, not every job qualifies you for the visa; it is, therefore, your exclusive obligation to double-check if your job qualifies before applying for the visa lottery.

So there is no requirement to enter the lottery, no requirement to win the lottery, but there is a condition to obtain a visa.
