Kpando Municipal District is one of the Volta Region’s eighteen districts. Originally known as Kpando District, it was created as an ordinary district assembly on March 10, 1989, until the southern part of the district was split off by President John Agyekum Kufuor’s decree on August 19, 2004, to create South Dayi District; the remaining part has been retained as Kpando District.
However, on June 28, 2012, the district’s southern half was torn off to form North Dayi District, while the remainder was elevated to municipal district assembly status to form Kpando Municipal District on the same day. Kpando is the capital of the municipality, which is located in the western portion of the Volta Region.

Ho, the regional capital, is roughly 70 kilometers from town, the municipal district capital. The Municipality’s location puts it in a favorable position with the possibility for rapid economic growth and development. The municipality is located between 6° 20′ and 7° 05′ north latitudes and 0° 17′ east longitude. The western limit is marked by the Volta Lake, which continues for 80 kilometers along the shore. The Municipality is bordered on the north by Biakoye District, on the east by Afajato South District, and on the south by North Dayi District.
According to the 2010 population and housing census, the municipality’s population is 53,736 people, with 25,904 men and 27,832 women. Kpando Municipal is one of Ghana’s oldest districts, extending into the modern Oti Region from the Volta Region. [4] Kpando Tokor is a fishing village on the shores of Lake Volta. It also serves as a jumping off point for crossing Lake Volta to the Afram plains and other adjacent settlements via outboard motor boats or the government-run pontoon.
History of Kpando
The Ewes of Kpando, also known as the Akpini, are thought to have been part of the third wave of migrations from Notsie, which was located in present-day Togo and maybe the Benin Area, around 450 years ago, while fleeing the authority of the tyrant Togbe Agorkoli.

Transportation System In Kpando
Traditional taxis, buses, minibusses (Trotro), and tricycle motors are all available in the Kpando Municipal. All of these modes of transportation, particularly the tricycle, are inexpensive.
If you’re on a budget, taking the minibusses (Trotro) is another good alternative. But it doesn’t run through all areas as compared to the tricycle.
Taxis are frequently shared. You’ll have to pick and choose among the other passengers, too. If you book or request ‘Dropping,’ however, you will have it all to yourself.
