Hohoe Municipal is one of Ghana’s Volta Region’s 25 administrative districts. It was created by separating the former Kpando District from the rest of the city. The Legislative Instrument (L.I. 2072) of 2012 established it. The Municipality has a total land area of 1,172 km2, accounting for 5.6% of the region’s total land area.

It shares boundaries with the Republic of Togo on the east, which forms part of Ghana’s international boundary; the Afadzato district and Kpando Municipality on the southeast; the Jasikan district on the north; and the Biakoye districts on the northwest. Hohoe, the capital, is around 78 kilometers from Ho, the regional capital, and 220 kilometers from Accra, Ghana’s capital.

According to the 2010 Population and Housing Census, the population of Hohoe Municipality is 167,016 people, accounting for 7.9% of the total population of the Volta Region. It is made up of 52.1 percent females and 47.9% males.

Transportation System In Hohoe

Mount Afadja ( Afadjato)

The indigenes call the mountain ‘Afadjato’ since ‘Afadja’ is the name of the mountain and ‘to’ in the Ewe dialect signifies mountain. Because ‘Mount Afadjato’ is a repeat of the word ‘Mountain,’ the true name is ‘Mount Afadja.’

Wli Waterfall

Hike with a tour guide to the lower falls on an easy, mostly flat trail that crosses two rivers 8 times on bridges. The Wli Waterfall is West Africa’s highest waterfall. Locals call the falls Agumatsa waterfalls, which means “Let Me Flow.” It’s in the Volta Region’s Hohoe municipality, which is home to the Ewe culture. It is about 280 kilometers from Accra, Ghana’s capital. Tagbo Waterfall
