Joostenberg Vlakte, Northern Suburbs – Cape Town

The Joostenberg Vlakte is located just beyond Cape Town’s city limits, past Durbanville, in the green belt that serves as a partition or border between the Mother City and Paarl. Residents of this area refer to their residence as the “country” and will direct you to exit 34 off the N1 highway, which is about 20 minutes outside of Cape Town. The majority of the houses in this area are situated on lovely, tiny lots, but that doesn’t make them any less attractive than those in the city. Contrary to popular belief, residents here prefer to live on the edge of things. They frequently refer to their homes as private farms and appreciate how close they are to the Winelands region, Paarl, Stellenbosch, and Durbanville.

Staying out here gives you access to Cape Town, Paarl, and the Winelands as well as a sense of spaciousness and the feeling that you are living on the outskirts of a metropolis. On the R304, you can discover places like Klein Joostenberg Farm. The closest thing to Wineland’s standards you’ll find this close to Kraaifontein is Joostenberg Deli and Bistro. It’s a great place to take kids because of the great, green lawn and adjacent jungle gym and slide. The piggery that the deli shares serves a variety of dishes made with steroid-free pork, so there is also good food there.

Joostenberg Vlakte is a short drive from both Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. Every traveller to Cape Town should include both of these on their itinerary, and each one merits at least a day’s worth of time spent there.
