Brackenfell, Northern Suburbs – Cape Town

The suburb of Brackenfell, which is a little northeast of Bellville, is located in Cape Town’s northern suburbs, hidden behind what locals refer to as the “boerewors curtain” (a term coined by locals for an invisible curtain that ostensibly separates English- and Afrikaans-speaking people in Cape Town). In the past, the region around Brackenfell was a significant road intersection; however, it is now primarily a residential neighbourhood situated in view of the alluring mountain landscape of Oostenberg, near the beginning of the Cape’s Winelands.

The main benefit of being in Brackenfell is how simple it is to visit Cape Town or retreat to the Winelands. There are benefits to being 45 minutes or less from the city, especially if wine is important to you. The beginning of the rural Winelands and the city’s periphery are where Brackenfell is located. From here, it’s simple to get to Stellenbosch, Paarl, Wellington, Franschhoek, and Pneil. Outdoor enthusiasts and those who love the outdoors should visit this area of Cape Town. Using Brackenfell as a base of operations makes more sense than one might think, especially with the mountains’ constant allure in the background and lush vineyards beginning as early as Durbanville.

Just 20 kilometres outside the city centre, the stunning Durbanville wine trail features no fewer than nine estates that are conveniently located in Brackenfell, nestled in the stunning Tygerberg hills and producing an unexpected range of wines. You can find a long history of winemaking at Stellenbosch, where the oldest wine route in the nation has over 300 wineries represented on it. Additionally accessible are the Helderberg and Paarl wine roads.
