Kloof, Valley of 1000 Hills – South Africa

A beautiful, green community sitting 550 meters above sea level with a reputation for a calm lifestyle that offers a respite from the occasionally exhausting humidity of the metropolis of Durban, Kloof — the Afrikaans word for ravine — is located about 25 kilometres from Durban.

One of the most lovely neighbourhoods in the hills above Durban in Kloof. It almost completely abuts the Krantzkloof Nature Reserve, which is divided by a ravine along which the Molweni runs in a succession of cascades and waterfalls, fostering a thriving bird population, an abundance of greenery, and adding to Kloof’s mist belt. It’s no surprise that homeowners have decided to commute to the city from their elegant homes and lush gardens in order to take advantage of the region’s natural beauty.

The Krantzkloof reserve offers some amazing views of the forested canyon and is only four kilometres from the heart of Kloof. The majority of the reserve’s 500 or so hectares are covered in dense indigenous forest, making it a home for wildlife. An appealing choice for a weekend is a great picnic place near the dam at the head of Kloof Falls. Numerous hikes follow the path of the Molweni River as they descend into the gorge from here.

The Valley of 1000 Hills tourism experience begins in Kloof, the Everton Conservancy is nearby, and you’re close enough to Durban to take advantage of all of its attractions. The Country Club is one of the greatest in KwaZulu Natal.
