Flying domestically in Ghana is becoming easy as the day goes by. Often, we run out of information to explore that area and today this piece is going to assist us in that sector. Passion Air is one of the domestic airlines in Ghana. As you may know, domestic flights or airlines are forms of commercial flights within the boundaries of a specific country. This means its operation with departure airport and the arrival airport is in the same country.
Thus, in Ghana, Passion Air having its headquarters in Accra flies to Takoradi, Kumasi, and Tamale at the moment. The airline uses the largest plane for domestic flight within Ghana, which is the Bombardier Dash 8 Q400. This explains that it has the ability to carry the greatest number of passengers on a single flight within the country.
Passion Air Airline was founded in 2017 by Edward Annan in partnership with DAC Aviation of Kenya. The company achieved its Air Operator Certificate in December 2017 and commenced operations in August 2018.
It’s the second-largest airline which has been able to transport 213,022 passengers as of 2019 with six destinations. They are also notable for hiring Ghana’s youngest female pilot, Audrey Esi Swatson.
WHAT IS REQUIRED TO FLY DOMESTIC With PASSION AIR
More often than not people choose vehicles to travel to these places due to many reasons like affordability, easy access, and the notion that you need a passport to be on a plane. However, flying domestically doesn’t require you to use only a passport but a photo identification card that is issued by the government body.
The actual physical ID is required and not pictures of IDs on phones. In this case, the Voters Identification card, Ghana Card, National Health Insurance Card, and Driver’s License. Company and Student IDs are not acceptable. Failure to produce a physical national ID shall result in denial boarding.
COST OF FLIGHT TICKETS
Compared to what others are charging in domestic air travel, PassionAir is considered the lowest. They offer twice a day frequency from Monday to Saturday and thrice on Sunday with a total expected schedule of 30 weekly flights.
The recent cost for flying with Passion air as follows;
- Accra to Wa via Tamale and Wa to Accra Via Tamale starts from GHS 395 for the one way trip. This destination is flown to three times a week. That is Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
- Flying two times a week from Accra to Ho and Ho to Accra starts from GHS 209 for one way.
- Accra to Takoradi starts from GHS 249 for one way. This destination is also flown to three times weekly.
- Accra to Kumasi and back to Accra for a round trip costs GHS 930.

- Proceed to select your departure date.
- Select the number of people traveling

A confirmation code will be sent to the telephone number used by the passenger in their contact information. Individuals who added their emails will have the following as part of the itinerary sent. It includes a unique confirmation code, flight number, date and time of arrival, departure and destination details, and total cost. The confirmation code will be presented at check-in. PAYMENTS METHOD
There are a number of ways you can pay for your flight. This can be either Visa cards, Master card, MTN mobile money, AirtelTigo money, Vodafone cash, PassionAir gift voucher, cash at sales and airport offices, ADB and or GT bank branches.
CHECK-IN TIMES FOR PASSION AIR
Each airline that flies within Ghana has its check-in times. PassionAir Online opens 24 hours before a flight and closes 3 hours before a flight. At the Airport, it closes 40 minutes before the flight. Terminal 3 at the Kotoka International Airport is used for all domestic flights and all regional and international flight Kotoka International Airport is the only International in Ghana.
LUGGAGE AND BAGGAGE REQUIREMENT FOR PASSION AIR
This airline also makes it clear that any single bag exceeding 32kg shall not be accepted. It is best to check your bag and reduce the weight or break it into smaller pieces. Individual passenger’s number of bags cannot exceed five also.
COURIER/ PARCEL SERVICE TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR PASSION AIR
PassionAir also provides shipping service at a fee where a parcel can be refused due to the following reasons;
- The package is considered as hazardous, dangerous or restricted by International Air Transport Association (IATA), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), applicable government department or other relevant organizations for carriage by a passenger aircraft.
- No customs declaration is made when required by applicable Customs regulations
- Or when they declare that they cannot deliver the items safely or legally.
Before packages are shipped, PassionAir has the right to inspect and has the right to reject any package if they are not conforming to the specifications. The package should also be 55cmX35cmX23cm dimension including handles and wheels. The total weight should also be 7kg including packaging. However excess baggage fees are charged on a per kilo basis at Ghs6 per kilogram.
HANDLING OF PETS WITH PASSION AIR
According to PassionAir, the transportation of pets will only be accepted if it is carried in a leak-proof cage not exceeding the measurement of 100x60x75cm (length x width x height) and 25 Kg. pets should always be accompanied and can only be carried in the hold of the aircraft.
Per each flight, the number of animals accepted is two. These should be domestic and warm-blooded animals like cats, dogs, birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, etc. However, domestic animals of unusual size, wild animals, reptiles, and rodents are not accepted.
Pets must also be booked 48 hours before flight at any PassionAir office or by calling 0800221221. It should have a pet passport or veterinary certificate as well They are also considered as checked baggage and must not exceed 25kg. additional weight attracts extra fees.
Whereas time and comfort are reasons to choose flights, people perceive love for luxury and abundance of money as the reason some individuals take that option. In this case, I will preach that time is also money. Unless you are not in a hurry if you can afford it, why not?
