Akosombo is a town in the south of Asuogyaman District, Eastern Region. It is one of the peaceful and beautiful places to visit in Ghana. Akosombo is not one-man land, it’s preoccupied by people of diverse ethnic backgrounds like the Akans, Ewes, krobos, and other ethnicities. So, there is always a new culture to experience when you visit Akosombo.

1.Treat yourself at the Royal Senchi Hotel

2.Go fishing


Akosombo is a town of many experiences and one of the most popular activities and things to do in Akosombo is to go fishing in one of the rivers in the town. Among these rivers in the town, the Aylos bay is the best place for fishing. Place where tourist can throw in a line and see what they catch, or simply enjoy lunch at the bay. It is better when enjoying the bay around day-time before its 4 pm, as with most tropical rivers, the mosquitoes will emerge after 4 pm.

For those you want more adventure to their trip, then you need to visit Akosombo with your hiking boots. The forest surrounding the lake is gorgeous and teeming with wildlife. It is a better way to experience the Volta lake direct from the ground level.

Kente is originally made in Ghana and if you want to know all the processes involve in making kente, Akosombo is another place to visit. The town also produces its particular type of kente, appropriately called Ewe Kente.

10.Visit Dodi Island


Dodi island is located in the middle of the second-largest man-made lake in the world. In a year, about 1.4 billion tourists visit the island on the Dobi Princess.

11.Set sail on the Dodi Princess


The only cruise ship in the entire country traverses Lake Volta and, despite the name, predates the famously doomed relationship between Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed. It was built at the Tema Shipyard in the 70s and intended to haul cargo, it was converted into a passenger ship the early 90s. It has three decks, with the lower one air-conditioned, a cocktail bar, an area for barbecuing, and even a sickbay.
