Abasua Prayer Camp – Prayer Camps In Ghana

Mountains in Ghana is not just for tourist looking to explore the nature of the country. But also a place for christains to communicate with God. Atwea mountains in one of the popular mountains in Ghana and also host the most popular prayer camp, Abasua prayer camp.

Abasua Prayer Camp is located on the Atwea Mountain in the Ashanti region’s Sekyere Central District, and is thought to be the first Christian body to create a prayer camp on the mountain before other Christian bodies did. Atwea Peak was once just another ordinary Ghanaian mountain with no religious significance until a Methodist pastor named Abraham Osei-Assibey ascended the mountain to pray, claiming to be instructed by the Lord.

After spending a few days on the mountain praying to the Lord, he returned to town and began taking his congregation to the top of the mountain to pray with him, establishing the now-famous Abasua Prayer camp in the process. His member believes in him and they believe God can talk to him.

Since then, various Christian organizations have erected prayer camps on the mountain and come there on a regular basis to organize prayer sessions, which usually include fasting. They believe they are closer to God and he listen to their prayer very fast. Other also believe it’s a holy grounds for prayers. However, Abasua Prayer Camp remains the most popular prayer camp in the area, attracting thousands of Methodist worshippers from all over the country, particularly around holiday seasons such as Christmas and Easter.

While Christian pilgrimages and activities are common at Atwea Peak and its several prayer camps, tourists are welcome to visit and climb the famed mountain. In fact, Christians who visit the mountain every year do so not just to fast and pray, but also to satisfy their curiosity and see for themselves what they’ve heard about Atwea mountain and prayer camps, bringing religion and tourism together. Arguably, the Atwea mountains is the most popular mountains in Ghana because of these prayer camps and tourist visiting Ghana.
