About Pinetown, Durban – South Africa

One of the oldest cricket clubs in KwaZulu Natal is located in Pinetown, which is situated between Kloof and Westville and just ten minutes from Berea in Durban. Pinetown has historically had a reputation for being primarily a light industrial town and not very desirable as a residential suburb. But things are changing, and this Durban neighbourhood is beginning to gain some notoriety in the real estate market, especially among first-time buyers who adore the fact that Pinetown is conveniently located near the M13 and other major thoroughfares, making it simple to travel to Durban and other locations in KwaZulu Natal. Pinetown is nestled at the foot of Field’s Hill, the section of the annual Comrades Marathon.

Pinetown proper is located between Caversham Glen and Manors, while a significant portion of the land surrounding the town also goes by that name. It was first developed in the middle of the 19th century around the Wayside Hotel, which unfortunately served as the location of one of the British incarceration camps during the Anglo-Boer War and was situated precisely on the wagon route connecting Durban and Pietermaritzburg.

One can see zebra, nyala, impala, samango monkeys, among other animals, in the New Germany Nature Reserve, a small reserve with picnic spaces, braai places, lovely pathways, and a hide by a waterhole. It also has a great aviary.

The Supermotard National, which takes place every year through Pinetown’s streets, is a spectacular event that attracts large groups of spectators and requires the riders to stop traffic on major routes. Supermotard racing is a family-friendly activity that involves fitting scramblers with slick tires and racing them on a narrow tar track.
