Accra International Conference Centre – Read More

The Accra International Conference Centre, also known as AICC, is undoubtedly Ghana’s most popular event hosting venue, hosting nearly all of the country’s big events.

The AICC is one of the country’s largest enclosed event hosting centres, with a total capacity of 6,000 people divided into six conference halls. It hosts musical concerts, comedy events, and diplomatic conferences in Accra.

The AICC was built in 1991 under the leadership of former President Jerry John Rawlings to host the historic Tenth Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement. It is located in Osu, just across from the new parliament building and a few meters from the Accra Sports Stadium.

Since then, it has hosted a number of big events and conferences, including UN, African Union, and ECOWAS summits, as well as becoming the perfect location for staging entertainment events in the city.

Even though it was established in the 1990s, the AICC is one of West Africa’s most sophisticated event venues, with modern transmission equipment, a press gallery, and other media and technology-friendly features.

The centre has been under intense pressure from event organizers in recent years, as population development has gradually rendered the 6000-seat arena unable to meet market demand. As a result, a dome-like structure has been built in the Conference Centre’s parking lot to meet the need for increased capacity.

While no plans for enlargement have been announced, the ongoing demand for a larger venue such as the Trade Fair Dome may encourage the government to perform some modifications and expand the AICC in the future.
