Assagay, Valley of 1000 Hills – Durban

Assagay, which is occasionally spelt Assegay, is located in what is now known as Outer West Durban. If approaching from the city centre of Durban, it is located just northwest of Hillcrest beyond the Tollgate. In comparison to Durban, this region of the world is greener and cooler, and it is covered in gently undulating hills that rise steadily to Botha’s Hill before dropping off into the breathtaking Valley of 1000 Hills.

Assagay is referred to as “country life” along with its pastoral neighbours Botha’s Hill, Alverstone, and the horse-friendly areas of Summerveld and Shongweni. As opposed to residing in the busier cities, people commute from here to Durban, Pinetown, or Pietermaritzburg. Despite the visible growth of sprawling homes and opulent townhouse complexes, the area is still more tranquil and green, allowing for a slower pace of life and providing much-needed relief from the summer heat that can envelop Durban.

KwaZulu-Natal is known for its sweeping green hills, pine forests, verdant valleys, rivers, streams, and wide pastureland. It is a lovely place to visit, especially given how easily you can get to the town. You can see why people are so interested in the place.

Additionally, there is a lot to see and do in Assagay. To reach the Rob Roy hotel, which has been around for decades, take Botha’s Hill to the Valley of 1000 Hills; tea in the gardens is a necessity at the top. Rich views of the valley may be seen from here. Take a drive through the 1000 Hills Experience Route to see artisans, crocodile and snake parks, three cultural villages with Zulu dancing, and more. To develop your taste for coffee, take the 1000 Hills Choo Choo, which departs from Kloof station on weekends and travels to Cato Ridge, or go to the Assagay Coffee plantation in Botha’s Hill’s Lello Road.
