To be honest, the Bono East Region has a lot to offer any visitor. One of my most memorable travel experiences was my first visit to the region. Beautiful attractions and historical sites, the region is worth visiting.

The Bono East Region was created from the former Brong Ahafo Region. Techiman is the new region’s capital. Bono East has a population of roughly one million people and a land area of 22,952 square kilometres.

It is bordered on the north by Savannah Region, on the west by Bono Region, on the south by Ashanti Region, and on the east by Volta Lake.

Tourist Sites In Bono East Region

The Bono East Region takes pride in being one of the country’s most beautiful tourism destinations. Because of the people’s conservative nature, their culture has remained untouched by industrial growth. With several magnificent tourist locations, it has become one of Ghana’s most appealing regions. The Black Volta and River Tano, two of the country’s most important rivers that serve as tourist attractions, pass through the region and bring various economic benefits to the locals.

Boabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary

The Boabeng Fiema Monkey Sanctuary, 22 kilometres north of Nkoranza, is a beautiful place to visit and is home to a rare species of monkeys who are treated like citizens. It is a wonderful sanctuary that was established in 1974 in Nkoranza District to safeguard the Sacred Monkeys who live in the forest around the villages of Boabeng and Fiema. The sanctuary is home to the black and white silky colobus monkeys as well as the brown Mona monkeys, which are both beautiful to see.

Killing any of the monkeys is forbidden because the residents of Boabeng and Fiema regard them as sacred. The monkeys have access to every section of the hamlet, and locals provide them with fruit trees. When a monkey dies, it is buried in a coffin and given specific funeral rites in the monkey cemetery. Tourists who want to stay the night or stay longer for research can use the receptive facilities.

Kintampo Waterfalls

The Kintampo Waterfalls are located at the point where the Pumpu River cascades 70 metres (230 feet) down picturesque rocky steps to continue its trip towards the Black Volta near Buipe. It is located 4 kilometres from Kintampo Township on the Kintampo-Tamale highway and consists of three (3) distinct phases accessible through a pathway. The final level adds an intriguing twist by requiring tourists to descend a winding staircase of steps to reach the gorgeous waterfall. Tourists have access to welcoming facilities.

Kintampo Canopy Walkway

The canopy walkway, which adds to the value of the Kintampo Waterfalls, was built across a valley spanning 90 metres and 80 metres at two different positions on the falls. A maximum load of twenty (20) human beings, each weighing an average of 100 kilogrammes (about 220 pounds), produces a total maximum tensile force of 101.6 KN in the three supporting thread-way cables, according to the findings. This amounts to 35.5KN in each canopy walkway cable.

This is significantly less than the 427KN tensile strength of the cable used in construction.
As a result, the Canopy Walkway is designed to bear loads and can allow up to twenty (20) human loads walking on the bridge at any given moment, making the tourism package thrilling.

Fuller Falls

Yabraso, 7 kilometres west of Kintampo, is located on the Yoko River. On the Yoko River (a tributary of the Black Volta) at Yabraso, the Fuller Falls falls softly from the east through a series of cascades, forming rapids. The waterfalls offer a fantastic, calm, and refreshing plunge pool surrounded by concrete and rock seats where visitors can relax peacefully while enjoying a beautiful view of the falls.

Buoyem Caves And Bats Colony

The small rural settlement of Buoyem in the Techiman Municipality is hidden in a dry semi-deciduous forest. The place features sandstone rocks and waterfalls, caverns, and Rosetta fruit bats as part of an intriguing environment tour package.

Tano Boase Sacred Groove. It is believed that the sacred grove is indeed the cradle of Bono Civilization. It is located in the Techiman Municipality. The grove served as a hideout for the Bono people during the Slave Trade and inter-tribal wars many years ago. It also serves as a place for recreation and religious activities.

Bono Manso Slave Market

A significant date in the history of the Bono East Region’s slave trade. On the Techiman-Kintampo road, in Bono Manso. Bono Manso was the location where slaves from the north were brought for sorting. The most powerful captives were chosen and sent to the coast, while the weaker ones remained in town. African Americans and other Africans in diaspora continue to visit the area to learn about their ancestors and history.

Digya National Park

Digya National Park, located in the Sene East District, provides visitors with a wonderful experience. Because of its restricted accessibility, this National Park is best suited for adventurous travellers. The park spans 3,475 kilometres of undulating landscape punctuated by sandstone inselbergs. It is found to be divided between the Bono East Region, Ashanti Region, and the Eastern Region on the Western border of the Volta Lake.
