Ghana’s Fashion Industry Ready for Digital Events?

Last year 2019, the fashion industry in Ghana was astonishing and we all prayed it could be the same the following year (2020). Some fashion designers are making it big on the world market and the locally based are giving us more reasons why they are so highly-regarded. There were so many fashion show, red carpet events and reality shows that help the exhibit their masterpiece.

Unfortunately, things changed due to the new coronavirus outbreak in 2020. On March 28, the President of Ghana announced a lockdown and bound social gathering. Though the president lifted both the lockdown and bound, but still social gathering should be a maximum of 100 people.

Now events are being organized on the digital platforms across the world. Like the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, the body responsible for the fashion shows in Paris, has announced it will launch an online AW20/21 Haute Couture event from 6 to 8 July and Spanish fashion event 080 Barcelona has confirmed that its next edition will take place as a digital format.

Is Ghana’s fashion industry ready for digital show? Some fashion lovers can’t wait for things to get back to normal and wait for the fashion industry to showcase their new piece on digital platforms.

After careful observation and research, it’s interesting to note that no fashion shows in the fashion industry have decided to go digital. And does this indicate that Ghana’s fashion industry is not ready for digital shows or the digital shows don’t fit their style of exhibition?
