People who celebrate Kundum Festival

The residents of Ahanta Nzema in Ghana’s Central region celebrate the Kundum Festival. Unlike most Ghanaian festivities, the Kundum festival does not have a set start date or timetable; instead, the event begins when the fruit of a specific variety of palm tree becomes ripe. The festival is thought to be the oldest documented festival on the Gold Coast’s history.

The first documented documentation of the celebration was written by a Dutch explorer named Bossman who landed on the coast of Ghana in the early 17th century (then Gold Coast). Bossman, on the other hand, believed the event had been going on for over a century when he came upon it in the late 16th century and decided to compose the earliest known official document outlining its celebration.

Who originated Kundum dance?

Kundum is thought to have come from Ahanta Aboade, a village on the Tarkwa-Takoradi road. According to legend, while on a hunting excursion, a hunter from Aboade spotted dwarfs dancing to the beat of weird music.

Ghana Travel Restrictions

Ghana is open to most travelers again. I mean travelers from all over the world. However, you do need proof of your COVID-19 vaccination(s) or a negative test result before being allowed entry.

Many hotels, attractions, and private tours are open with new health & safety protocols in place, and you still have to follow certain guidelines. They are all good for our safety.
