As a result of the government’s decision to elevate Takoradi Polytechnic and five other Polytechnics to the level of Technical Universities, the institution was established in September 2016. Since April 1954, Takoradi Technical University (formerly Takoradi Polytechnic) has functioned as a Government Technical Institute under the Ghana Education Service of the Ministry of Education. The Royal Society of Arts (RSA) and City and Guilds of London, United Kingdom, served as the awarding bodies for the institute’s Craft and Technician Certificate programs at the time, which were largely provided in the commercial and technical fields.
