Urgent Warning about Increased Risk in 18 Countries Including Popular Holiday Destinations

The UK Foreign Office has issued a new travel warning about increased risk in 18 countries including popular holiday destinations

Travelers from the UK are advised to exercise caution when visiting 18 countries, including the popular Mediterranean vacation spots, due to increased hazards. This advice was issued by the Foreign Office. With tensions in the Middle East, especially between Israel and Iran, increasing throughout the night, the administration released its most recent alert.

The safety of travel locations in the Middle East and southern Mediterranean may be impacted by the tensions in the area. “Tension between Iran and Israel is rising,” the Foreign Office issued a warning.

“Any military operation has the potential to quickly spiral out of control and endanger the entire area. If you are in the area or are thinking about visiting, keep an eye on news updates and keep checking FCDO’s travel advisory for changes.”

Holiday hotspots in the warning are the United Arab Emirates, which includes Dubai, Morocco, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, and Tunisia. Also included in the alert are Bahrain, Kuwait, Libya, Yemen, Qatar, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Oman, and Lebanon.

The UK government has expressed particular concern for British nationals visiting these areas, stating: “There is a high threat of terrorist attack globally affecting UK interests and British nationals, including from groups and individuals who view the UK and British nationals as targets. You should remain vigilant at all times. UK Counter Terrorism Policing has information and advice on staying safe abroad and what to do in the event of a terrorist attack. Find out how to reduce your risk from terrorism while abroad.”

The Foreign Office said a terror attack was ‘likely’ and added that attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners. The statement added: “Terrorists continue to issue statements threatening to carry out attacks in the Gulf region. These include references to attacks on Western interests, including against UK citizens. Targets may include residential compounds, military sites, oil, transport, aviation interests, crowded places, restaurants, hotels, beaches, shopping centers, and places of worship.” Holidaymakers and travelers alike are advised to check the latest advice for the country they are planning on traveling to.
