Kwahu Plateau – Pride of Kwahu Town

The Kwahu Plateau is located in the Kwahu district of Ghana’s Eastern region and is possibly the most frequented plateau in the country since the entire Kwahu townships are located on top of the Plateau, giving it a distinct appearance from other plateaus.

The Kwahu plateau, Ghana’s largest of its sort, stretches for 260 square kilometers from the Kwahu area down to the Nkawkaw Township.

Geographically, the plateau plays an essential role in the movement of Ghana’s waterbodies, dividing rivers in the western portion of the country from rivers in the southern section, particularly those within the Volta Lake.

The plateau’s highest point is around the Mount Akmawa area, which is at 2585 feet above sea level, making it one of the country’s highest points and excellent for sports like paragliding, which takes place on the Kwahu ridge every year.

The plateau is well-known for attracting millions of tourists from all over the world each year, with the majority of these visitors coming for hiking and paragliding festivals, which typically take place in April during the Easter season. Mpraeso, Obo, and Abetifi are the top towns to visit on the plateau for tourism.

Ghana Travel Restrictions

Ghana is open to most travelers again. I mean travelers from all over the world. However, you do need proof of your COVID-19 vaccination(s) or a negative test result before being allowed entry.

Many hotels, attractions, and private tours are open with new health & safety protocols in place, and you still have to follow certain guidelines. They are all good for our safety.
